In the book NewJack: Correctional officer s Sing Sing, the book discussed the life of correctional officer. The author, Ted Conover, explains first hand on the experiences that many correctional officers experience throughout their careers. Conover was curious about the subculture of the prison correctional officers’ duties. The weaknesses of the book would be the actual examples of the life for the correctional officers that were in the prison. Conover gave a summary of the experiences; however more input of actual experiences would allow readers more insight to how it is in prison from their position. Some of the stories of the prisoners and their struggles could be elaborated. He initially became part of the criminal justice system to observe the nature of the work environment of the correctional officers, but got involved with the lifestyle of the prisoners. Conover did not have emotional connection while describing the different things that happened in the book.
