At the beginning of last year, I faced a personal experience which made me want to pursue a career in Nursing. The discovery of my grandfather Alzheimer’s, followed by my grandmother’s depression and ultimately anaemia was a shock. By caring for my grandparents I gained lots of experience spending time in hospitals, communicating with doctors and other healthcare professionals but most importantly experiencing the psychological traumas of such events. My personal experience as a carer has helped me empathise the emotional turmoil patients and their families experience.
To research further into a career in Nursing, I attended a master class at ‘The University of Nottingham’ which gave me an understanding of the broad spectrum of healthcare professions. I also completed a work placement in the NHS working in Phlebotomy, Physiotherapy, District Nursing, Intermediate Care and Podiatry. Through work experience with District Nurses I realised the need to reassure people in difficult situations. I enjoyed engaging with patients and found it useful understanding how important this skill is ...
The Hunger Games was a critically acclaimed movie when it came out; however, some critics would argue that the movie can be sometimes too violent for its intended audience. In this essay I would dissert Brian Bethune’s essay “Dystopia Now” in order to find its weaknesses and compare the movie Battle Royale with his essay.
Our course, Transition to Professional Nursing, is barely two weeks old and already I am being enlightened and challenged to expand my experience of nursing. I will attempt to explain my personal journey and experience thus far including how and why I got here, my beliefs about nursing and related values, and my visions for the future.
The article I chose discusses the continual change in the roles of nurses. The article also poses a concept that nursing now is not based on caring, but medicine. “By accepting continual changes to the role of the nurse, the core function of nursing has become obscured and, despite assuming medical tasks, the occupation continues to be seen in terms of a role that is subordinate to and dependent on medicine.” (Iley 2004) Nurses are taking a more professional role, and more tasks are being delegated to assertive personnel. Therefore, with all these changes occurring, the role of the enrolled nurse is unclear. “Previously, having two levels of qualified nurse in the United Kingdom had been seen as problematic for health service managers and nurses themselves, and the ending of enrolled nurse programs in 1992 helped to solve this problem.” (2004) The study in this article gathered the characteristics of enrolled nurses and differentiated the groups converting to registered nurses, groups in the process of conversion, and groups interested or not interested in conversion. This study reveals the situation of enrolled nurses in context of continuing towards the professionalization of nursing. “The data from this study support the possibility that the role of nurses as direct caregivers is seen as a positive dimension of the work they undertake.” (2004) The findings imply that nurses need to get back to being caregivers, instead of concentrating on obtaining professional status in medicine.
Comets have amazed, interested, and driven scientists to study them often. Comets like the Hale-Bopp have been seen by millions of people. Since the discovery of comets, scientists, astrologers, or and even your next door neighbor have been interested in discovering or studying comets. Like Halley’s Comet which has had a real impact on the history of comets.
Fate is the power which predetermines inevitable events that are destined by its force. What has destined by fate cannot be changed whether it is love, hatred, or any other part of life. Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William Shakespeare, is based on the tragic love story of two lovers, Romeo and Juliet. All throughout the play, fate fights against their will to live together happily. Love, coincidences, and timing were all factors of fate which doomed the lives of the star crossed lovers.
Gothic fiction is a genre of literature consisting of horror, darkness, death, terror, castles and many other horrific elements to create suspense and to engage the reader. During the 18th century this specific genre became popular with the novel “The Castle of Otranto”, and later on developed into other known stories such as “Frankenstein” and “Dracula”. The name gothic is referring to the scary buildings which many of these stories takes place in. The gothic genre has also developed into German gothic and Victorian gothic.
As we all know, life reflects Poetry, poetry nurture each soul, poetic beauty of salvation. That is the unchanging values seem to never change in the lives of each of us. When I was young, my mom put me to sleep by the soothing poem. So, I was familiar with the verse. Last week, I read two poems “As I Walked out one evening” and the “The more loving one”, which were written by W.H. Auden. English is m second language, so it is hard to understand the English’s poem by form or theme. However, that is an interesting experience for me anyway. After read, I really like both of them, but I prefer the “As I walked out one evening”, because it relates to human condition such as the lovers and the clocks.
Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. This long term sickness inspired me to gain more experience outside of the home and volunteer which confirmed that this was the right course for me. I am fascinated by the practical aspect that the course involves as well as the theoretical
From a very early age, I always considered myself to be a creator of art. Taking scrap notebook paper, I would gleefully create absurd, yet often amusing comic books for my parents. When this mode of creativity no longer appealed to me, I vowed to teach myself how to type. I wanted to expand my stories into something larger than just drawings on lined notebook paper. My family could not afford a computer and learning to type was not a privilege that was readily available to me through my elementary education. Still, I yearned to expand my stories into more than just drawings on lined notebook paper. After receiving an old computer from my grandmother, I began to type stories on the basic application of Microsoft Wordpad. With my two index fingers hard at work, I was able to shape stories that ranged from short mysteries to full-blown soap operas. From that point, I continued to find ways to express my voice. It wasn't until the end of my high school experience that I realized just how important my voice was. I often turned to mainstream media to find images and stories of men who were black, lower class, and gay in America. What I found, sadly, was that they rarely existed in heavily circulated media. I sought out communities that nurtured these narratives, and while I found a few in my hometown of Nashville, TN, they often would disband and fall apart. I never stopped looking, though.
In the first year of my career, I worked in Benin and Nigeria as an operation coordinator supporting Chinese manufacturers in logistic and distribution management in Western Africa. Within a short period of time, I established a good relationship with local partners and started to crystallize a realization that a career in International Business was my real calling and the goal of my life is to change the image of Made in China products from cheap quality copycats to affordable good stuffs.
I plan to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering with an emphasis in technology engineering. I have been interested in this field from the time I work fixing my brothers bikes and mine and, most recently days helping my father after school. Just working with my hands is something that gets my attention and enjoy many new things. This is why I believe that computer engineering is the right career for my future. Ever since I was in seventh grade electronics has been one of my favorite subjects. I knew I wanted to be an engineer when I completed my science fair project I have always worked on electrical currents, the flow of current from its positive charge to its negative charge. What helped me understand this concept was when we had the electricity unit my fr...
The definition of a Police Officer is a Hero: an ordinary person facing extraordinary circumstances and acting with courage, honor, and self-sacrifice. Police officers are the real heroes of our society who put their lives on the line every day to protect us and our families. A Police Officer is an ordinary person that has to face many difficult situations throughout the course of his duties. A Police Officer is required to risk his own life to save people that he has never met in his life. There are not many people that have the courage and desire to venture into this field. For those who do, there are many reasons for becoming a police officer, but perhaps the most compelling reasons are that the job allows a person to make a difference, to make a change, and to perhaps even save a life. Other advantages, in addition with the challenges are the job security, prestige, and the pension. My dream job is to become a Police Officer that will give me a challenging career, a job with good salary and an opportunity to serve my community.
Shark culling is still being a problem over many years in WA. The catch and kill program has been applied to sharks where the sharks will get killed if they found the sharks over 3 metres. They are using a technique where they put the blood and sharks get attracts to blood they come near the blood and then kill the sharks in where they should use a tracking system like the United States. So they track the sharks so everyone knows where the sharks are on that beach or not. Sharks are considered as main spices in the ocean which means that sharks are extremely important in maintaining a balance of marine ecosystems. (Riesa Su, 2014) Removing all the sharks from an ecosystem can lead to a massive shift in the balance and from which the food chain can be affected (mewing J, 2010).The shark culling should be stopped do not need to kill them. Sharks live in their home they only do attacks when people attempt to go near them. The government did not notice that they are also killing animals that live under water and the animals like dolphins, sea turtles like creatures (Brawny sphere) .The WA Governments shark cull policy is an infective, and damaging the policy.
At the age of 36, mom decided to return back to college to obtain her nursing degree. This wasn’t a hard decision for her to make. The April before she enrolled in school my great grandmother passed away. This major dilemma played a major role in mom’s returning back to school. She had taken care of my great grandmother for months before she passed away, and decided that she wanted to make an impact on the lives of geriatrics.
