PERIODIZATION
Periodization refers to the breakdown of a training program into discreet time periods called macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles. It is a way to organize training goals. It involves breaking the training period into phases that focuses on various aspects. Although each phase has different goal but each phase is built upon the results of previous phase.

COMPONENTS OF PERIODIZATION
1. Macrocycle:
A macrocycle is the entire training period. It consists of mesocycles and micro cycles. For some sports having one season per year, a macrocycle can be a year while some sports have multiple seasons per year and thus multiple macrocycles.

2. Mesocycle:
A mesocycle is the periodical breakdown of macrocycle. It can last for several months or several weeks. In a periodized program, each mesocycle has different purpose but each mesocycle is built upon the progress of previous mesocycle(s).

3. Microcycle
Several micocycles make up a mesocycle. A microcycle is the cycle in intensity. It can last for five days or even three weeks for certain muscle groups. A microcycle can also ...
