“The act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the basis of observed characteristics or behavior (Merriam-Webster, 2006; p.830).” This is the exact definition of racial profiling from the dictionary. Racial profiling has been an issue in are criminal justice system for some time now. People involved in the criminal justice system, such as police officers would conclude that racial profiling based on the definition is ethically wrong. An argument must be made as well for racial profiling based on some situations. People that appose racial profiling would say that it has no place in the criminal justice system because it targets minorities who aren’t doing anything wrong. This brings us to the term racial biased policing which are what I was referring to about how law enforcement targets minorities. Racially biased policing occurs when law enforcement uses race or ethnicity as a justification to stop someone in a traffic stop or in a different situation.
