Today there are many smokers of tobacco and marijuana, some prefer one more then the other. It became a very interesting subject to me- the preference of these substances. Is it true that marijuana is less harmful than tobacco? In different ways they are both harmful to the brain and health. I know many people that have smoked cigarettes or marijuana for many years and who have failed to quit. They believe it helps them to relax, calm down, and release stress. Thus, It becomes a very strong addiction for many people and for young adults it can create stress and violence as well as mental illnesses. There have been many researches done to see if one is more damaging to the health than the other. Even though, marijuana is used for some medical purposes there is still need for restraint and self-control when marijuana use is considered.
There have been many studies proving that tobacco is more risky to the body then tobacco. Nicotine attacks and stimulates the nervous system while reaching the brain in a few seconds where it causes skeletal muscle relaxation. It is a fact that has been proven that smoking cigarettes causes many kinds of cancer but mainly lung cancer. It also increases greater risk of heart diseases, stokes, lip cancer, throat cancer, respiratory problems and chronic bronchitis. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “It accounts for an estimated 443,000 deaths, or nearly one in every five deaths, each year in the United States”. The second hand smokers are also in risk of getting a lung cancer. Tobacco is a very strong addictive substance where research has shown that heavy smokers typically smoke ten to twenty cigarettes per day. Patients treated with kidney transplant healed to weaken the immune system to lessen the chance of transplant rejection (webmd.com). It also smoked for patients dealing with weight loss, glaucoma, and asthma. I do believe that in the right doses marijuana can help dealing people with one of these symptoms. However, I don’t think that marijuana should be the way of life as I see many young adults creating it that way. Both tobacco and marijuana affect central nervous system that creates risk once the substance is abused. When we use something today we need to think about tomorrow, how it will affect our health? It is important to take care of the body by making a choice to have a long, healthy life.
