1.0 Disinfection by Ozone
Ozone was discover over 100 years ago in Berlin and it has been use in disinfection of drinking water ever since. Ozone disinfection has been widely used in Europe and US past 10 years. Disinfection is a process that eliminates most pathogenic microorganisms but not include bacterial spores on inanimate objects. Disinfectants are the chemical that use in the disinfection process, where different disinfectants have different target ranges of the microorganism. Disinfection by ozone is one of many types of disinfection technique available.
Ozone usually known as O3, where split oxygen molecules by an energy source into oxygen atoms (O1) and then when the oxygen atoms collide with oxygen molecules (O2), it will form an ozone gas (O3), which usually use as a disinfectants. Ozone is one of the water purifier and sterilizer which it disinfects water, eliminating color, taste and odor. Ozone produced naturally through a lightning through oxygen. Ozone disinfection has been used in many industries such as food industry; wastewater treatment, drinking water and others related industry. Ozone disinfection has 20-30 times more power compare to Chlorine disinfection and typically 4-5 times lesser than Chlorine in contact time for ozone disinfection. Ozone does not have any THMs (tri-halomethanes) or complex chlorinated compounds that may cause cancer to the users that link to it. Ozone must generate on site in the process of disinfection.
Most of the past disinfection studies with ozone has performed in pure aqueous system by using a culture of a single organism system. A study done by Kessel et al show that the free ozone residual of 0.05 to 0.45 mg/l is sufficient enough to deactivate poliovirus within 2 minute...

Any leakage is not acceptable because small amount of ozone might cause unacceptable ozone concentration that causes any safety issue at the work place. The ozone monitoring system should install nearby to the machine to make sure that the ozone level is always safe.
Ozone has it limit on solubility in the water and decomposes more rapidly in water system compare in the air. To ensure maximum performance the ozone can do, the contactor must be well covered in order to maximize the ozone contact with the wastewater or any water that use the ozone disinfection.
Ozone will become much more hazardous in gaseous state for an amount of time before it decay, so when handling the ozone gas system, extreme caution is consider as a need to the system. Every parts of the whole system must be checked before the initiation of the ozone disinfection process.
Disinfection is applied in water as well as wastewater treatment as a finishing step so as to destroy pathogens but the cause of concern regarding the disinfection process is the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Natural organic matter (NOM) in water has been considered as the predominant DBP precursors. Disinfectants are powerful oxidants that oxidize the organic matter present in water forming DBPs. Chlorine, ozone, chlorine dioxide, and chloramines are the most common disinfectants used nowadays and each produces its own suite of chemical DBPs in finished drinking water (Richardson, 2003). DBPs so formed pose a threat to human health because of their potential to cause cancer and reproductive/developmental effects. Most developed nations have regulated concentration of DBPs so as to minimize exposure to potentially harmful DBPs while maintaining adequate disinfection and control of targeted

Workers may also use nitrile gloves in addition to every practical task performed in the shop, from surface preparation to application of paints and coatings. A supplied air respirator is the best choice for protecting workers. However, the compressor and other associated equipment must be properly maintained and must deliver sufficient uncontaminated air. A full face air purifying respirator equipped with organic vapor cartridges and N95 pre-filters is the second-best choice. This equipment provides eye full protection. Any respirator must be used within a defined respiratory protection program, including fit testing (for tight fitting styles) and a formal cartridge change-out schedule. While doing his research Molina learned that these compounds move up to the ozone and stay there. He expected the compounds to be destroy by the solar radiation. However to his surprise he formed that chlorofluorocarbons would simplify into component element when exposed to radiation. This simplify components produce a highly concentration of pure chlorine atoms. From there he already knew that the ozone layer can be destroy with chlorine.
Chlorination is one of the most used method that has been used to disinfect water. The
Ozonation is very useful in pulp wastewater treatment. This process can convert COD to BOD. Many chemical compounds are sensitive to ozonation process. So this process can have a large impact in decrease the concentration of AOX in pulp wastewater and other colored/colorless chemical compounds.
Contamination of Water and Air. Urbanization enhances the proliferation of industries, automobiles, and agricultural practices. Most toxic air contaminants are produced as we endeavor to fuel our homes, automobiles, factories, energy production facilities, and might also be discovered in indoor cleansing mixtures, and construction supplies. Furthermore pollutants found in gasoline, dry cleaning services, and paint thinners and strippers; som...
Use laboratory safety equipment such as fume hoods and other local ventilation to prevent exposure to airborne chemicals. Wear gloves and other personal safety clothing to avoid skin contact with all laboratory chemicals to minimize the exposure to them.
Our planet earth is surrounded by a blanket of gases called atmosphere that sticks to the ground due to gravity. It is made of various gases, among them ozone is a vital one. Ozone is the form of oxygen, each molecule of which

To begin with, the first type of hazard/exposure is fire and explosion. Fire is highly flammable and the vapor is heavier than normal air. It can travel for a considerable distance to source of ignition and flash back. Fire can be of 3 types: small, large and fire involving tanks or cars or trailer loads. An acute hazard can be the vapor/air mixtures that cause explosions. One way of preventing is to not open flames and sparks as well as no smoking. It is also preferable to take off reactions in clo...
Water plays such an important role in our daily lives. 70% of our body is composed of water. 70% of the earth surface is also made up of water, but out of the 70%, only 1/3 of water is consumable. In fact, this amount has been continuously to decrease as more and more industries began to pollute and damage the water. For example, many toxic chemicals may be released into the water thus making the water impure. Such pollutions and damages lead the water to be contaminated and inconsumable as it may cause severe diseases. Water purification can remove all the unnecessary bacteria and viruses from the water that is hazardous for our health. Water purification may also improve the flavor and appearance of water. It removes the unpleasant odor. Therefore, water purification became one of the most useful and popular process used by people all over the world today. It is by far the most recommended and safest water treatment that is commonly used to purify damaged water into consumable water. Water purification provides us with safe, pure and clean water to consume and use.
