The overall process of global warming is the continuing rise of Earth’s average temperature. The primary cause of global warming is the greenhouse effect. As sunlight hits the earth, some of the heat is reflected back into space, while some is absorbed by greenhouse gases. These gases mostly come from power plants, car fumes, and even animals. Naturally occurring atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are the two of the most causing gases. The worst one out of the two is carbon dioxide it lasts for about one-hundred years in the atmosphere. Even though methane is more powerful than carbon dioxide it only last in the atmosphere from a range of ten to fifteen years. Theses gases are leading to many temperature changes in the world.
According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and shown in this series of maps, the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 1.4°Fahrenheit since 1880. Research has shown that Earth has had five major ice ages; from the first one leading back to over two billion years ago, and the most recently one beginning over three millions ago and continues still today. There was also a time called the medieval warming period (AD 950 to 1250), which is when there was a warm climate in the North Atlantic region that may have been related to other climate events around the world. After this warming period there was a cooler period that followed right behind it and this is called the “little ice age.”
There is clear evidence of changes in the composition of the greenhouse gases in the lower atmosphere. There is an increase in both carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere due to all the burning of fossil fue...
