1.Introduction In the first of May , 2014 we level 1 s2b3 students of the civil engineering program , Caledonian College of Engineering organized a site visit to a building which is still under construction located at West of Muscat city (AL Seeb – AL Hail) which is known as ( The wave Muscat) , it takes about twenty (20) kms of land . The Wave project uses about 2.5 million square meters of land which involves 600,000 square meters of the reclamation. In addition, the project takes along wonderful and amazing 6 km stretch of coastline. The Wave, Muscat is also home to the 400 berth " Almoj Marina", which considered Oman’s largest private yachting hub . unfortunately the wave project is not completed until now, they believe it will be completed by 2015 , …show more content…

It is being managed by the local council in two different ways. These include; a rip-rap wall, dune stabilization. The rip-rap wall consists of large rocks which have been piled up at an angle. It is somewhat by accident that I find myself drawn towards the field of Construction Science. I have always enjoyed building with an incorporation of moving parts. When I was young, I started building toy cars, airplanes, dinosaurs, and everything an eight-year-old boy would imagine. It was like striking gold! I could build tracks, and cars with wheels to go on the tracks. I could even build towers with moving parts that reached the living room ceiling. Needless to say this unassuming box of used gadgets fostered a growing excitement towards construction and architecture. As my knowledge of the field grew, so did my curiosity about the assembly and preparation it takes to build useful assets like houses, hotels, even parking garages. I am pursuing a degree in Construction Science, which encompasses not only creating new spheres of urban development, but also a supporting a structure that helps a community grow. After attending Blinn College, I feel the need to expand my knowledge in the field of architecture by attending the highly credited University of Texas A&M.
Within this paper, the differences between a summer and winter beach will be explained thoroughly, and the sand samples taken from the back shore portion of Huntington Beach, located in South Carolina, will be used as proof of these differences. The sand samples taken at both summer and winter periods will be defined and analyzed in great detail, as will the beach area itself. Once having read this paper, the general background information on the type of sand collected, specifically about Huntington Beach, will be evident, as will the differences in the beach during winter and summer time. The samples will be described thoroughly, and lab work and findings will be summarized for a touch of light, interesting, reading; all outside work cited corrected. These findings will not only be conveyed with words, but also visually appealing diagrams and photos of the physical sample. Finally, there will be a brief summary at the end of this paper in which the sand samples will be briefly restated in show of example for the winter and summer differences in a beach, specifically Huntington Beach.

In fact, there are many areas of the world’s coasts that are actually growing from sediment deposits. Building Construction procedures involve the erection of various types of structures. The major trend in present-day construction continues away from handcrafting at the building site and toward on-site assembly of even larger, more integrated subassemblies manufactured away from the site. Construction in the United States is the product of a diverse group of subindistries, with many individuals and organizations involved in the construction of a single structure, from the manufacture of necessary components to final assembly. The major elements of a building are as follows: (1) the foundation, which supports the building and provides stability; (2) the structure, which supports all the imposed loads and transmits them to the foundation; (3) the exterior walls, which may or may not be part of the primary supporting structure; (4) the interior partitions, which also may or may not be part of the primary structure; (5) the environmental- control systems, including the heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, lighting, and acoustical systems; (6) the vertical transportation systems, including elevators, escalators, and stairways; (7) communications, which may include such subsystems as intercommunications, public address , and closed-circuit television, as well as the more usual telephone wiring systems; and (8) the power, water supply, and waste disposal systems.
In building construction and in fire prevention there are organizations that have created a useful system on how to determine what type of building falls under which category. The ICC (International Code Council) and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) create these building codes for the safety of firefighters. The two most commonly known standards for building classifications are the NFPA 5000 and also the International Building Code (IBC). The two are very similar, however, they different on sub-categorizing. The International Building Code uses Roman numerals behind the type of construction. In addition to subcategories with letters for each five classes and the amount of fire resistance provided for each building. NFPA uses Roman numerals behind the type of construction. From this report, it is clear that a series of steps have to be taken in order to construct or renovate a building. Firstly, a problem is defined and in order to understand this information is gathered through a survey. Once the survey is drawn up, structures are determined. After calculating loads, sizes of structural members are figured. Materials are tested before using them in real life structures, hence creating a safer structure. When everything is on the point, the structure is constructed. In conclusion, this report shows that various factors contribute to the context of a design brief.
