Computers can be intimidating. Educating oneself about some of the basics of computers can lessen this intimidation. In addition, a computer user will be able to get the results that he or she is hoping for. Input devices, output devices, storage, and computer speed are a few areas that will be discussed further.
In order to maintain accurate records or create precise results, data input should be done with the best possible input device. I will give examples of a few situations and explain which input device would work best.
Printed Questionnaires- For this situation, I believe the most widely used input device, which is the keyboard, would work best. Questionnaires are made up of primarily letters and numbers that are easily found on a keyboard. Most people are familiar with a keyboard and creating a questionnaire should not be difficult.
Telephone Survey- In this situation a touch input device may be a better choice, such as a touch screen. This way, the interviewee does not have to wait for the interviewer to finish typing. The touch screen would work best if there were multiple choice answers to the telephone survey.
Bank Checks- The MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) is used by the banking industry. This device can scan checks quickly and ensures that checks are sent to the proper bank.
Retail Tags- Most stores now use a bar-code scanner for pricing. The bar code scanner recognizes a series of bars of different lengths and sends that code to the computer. Even small retail stores may have a handheld bar code scanner to make pricing and checkout more efficient.
Long Documents- Though I have never used this device, a voice input device would make long documents much easier. This requires special software and may require using the keyboard for editing. Because keyboards can cause injury, an individual that has to prepare many long documents may want to consider a voice input device.
Just as accuracy and choosing the correct device for input is important, the same applies to output. Choosing the correct device can increase quality and convenience. In the following situations, I will share which output device I feel would work best:
Hand held Computer- If an individual has a hand held computer; it is likely they are looking for mobility. Wireless data transfer would be ideal for this situation.
Color Photograph- A photo quality printer should be used for color photographs. Some desktop printers will work, but often times the color will fade over time.
In order to design a quality survey it is important that the questions are worded so that the group you are targeting can easily understand what you are asking. Jargon must be avoided at all costs. Depending upon your study, answer choices must be available for all types of situation or categories. When asking open ended questions that require a typed response be sure to address only one topic through the question. It is not a quality question if you’re asking someone to describe the positive and negative aspects of their job within the same question. Questions need to be direct and specific. When providing someone with a survey the directions and the purpose of the survey must be clearly stated prior to beginning the survey. To boost participation make sure the directions or the description provides information as to why this survey is beneficial and what the results are going to be used for.
This first question is the easy question and i made my mind on what methods i should pick. I pick a convenience methods even despite the flaws of creating a bias in result of an incompleted conclusion and this convenience methods also it may not represent the views of others student. But the methods itself is very lazy but the way to get people to do the survey by being up in their face and surveying two hunderd out of five thousand student that come to the liberty, really
After inputting the task with both input methods, participants completed a questionnaire about their overall experience with the keyboard. 75% of the participants indicated
The design of the questionnaire is based on the descriptive survey format (Oppenheim, 2002); however, as it is just a first attempt at designing the questionnaire, I can predict that after having carried out the pilot work (ibid), the ordering of questions sequences could be changed.
Obtaining information or rather measurements by a survey in this type of occupation would be one of the last type of methods that I would use. Simply and to sum up, not everyone answers or likes to complete surveys.
As such, we come out with the questionnaires survey to have a better understanding of the students’ perception, opinions and their preference. Questions such as what is your preference colour, what are your learning styles and techniques and what kind of learning activity will you prefer?
I am using a questionnaire to obtain my data, I have chosen this method, as it is easy for the user to understand and complete and is much less demanding on time and resources. It also means it can be sent out electronically for the user to complete when convenient.
The first method I will look at is the rt method which is built upon collected data from surveys etc. Its main plus points being that it uses a much larger sample than the other methods because it takes less time to collate the results. It is also useful because it allows for further research to be added - it can be updated. There are a number of problems with this. The subjects may not feel comfortable and could answer just to please the experimenter. A big problem with the method is that it does not give enough range for the subject. They are restricted within the boundaries of the tick boxes. The researcher can only learn so much.
users to send money, using computers. The same can be done by means of mobile phones that are support Web.
Administering surveys with closed-ended questions (e.g., face-to face and telephone interviews, questionnaires etc.). (Claire, 2001)
Interviews, on the other hand, are used to understand fully someone’s impression or even learn about their answers in the questionnaires. Although they are time-consuming, reliable data is collected by the researchers. Consequently, this information is accurate and valid to the people the research should assist.
Questionnaire is a set of questions with answers to choice whether in printed or written that have a purposes to get information. The information collected can help risk manager or business entity to understand more about the risk or threats that they need to face.
Lack of response is the main disadvantage for mail surveys. The group survey is another low cost form, however the individual respondent is interviewed in a group. The disadvantage with group surveys are the logistics of marshaling the respondents to one location and the perception by respondents that grouping posses less anonymity. Electronic surveys are a relatively new addition in survey research and could very well become comparable to the telephone survey. Electronic surveys are advantageous for the low cost as well as ease in delivery. Because the delivery method is through internet, and the general population does not
student will be able to maintain focus for much longer. Computers also enable students to learn
The interview is a tool that is commonly used to support the questionnaire. In this specific category, the person that is interviewing will have a set of questions that they will pose to each individual and record the subsequent responses. The oral interview carries the benefit of the act of providing clarity to responses, broadening the perspective and giving insight to meanings of trends as a result of specific engagement with certain devices, etc. The interviews are useful in the fact that they provide a means of establishing a follow-up mechanism on the questionnaire that is established and is highly beneficial for a smaller sample of respondents (Cassell, 2006). Because interviews require the presence of personal interaction and face-to-face
