The important entities needed for a successful communication includes; a sender, receiver, message and feedback. First, the sender is a person or entity that is sending information to the receiver. After receiving the message, the receiver will attempt to decode the message and prepares a proper response (feedback). Writing has changed because of the efficiency that technology provides. With the invention of instant messaging, writing has started to become something new entirely. People are writing more often and faster to get a message across. Luckily, students know that the writing that they do with friends is much different than what employers are looking for in the work place (Guffey, M.E., & Loewy, D., pg. 3-29).
Being able to communicate effectively in a professional manner is vital in most, if not all, career paths. This statement brings up some important questions. Do potential employers really care about an applicant’s communication skills? How will I use communication skills in my own career? How has college improved my own professional communication skills? Understanding how to communicate in a professional manner can help people in their careers and I feel improving my own communication skills will benefit me now and in the future.
