While many students may view drinking as a normal part of a social life during college, alcohol use can get quickly out of hand and result in various life changing alcohol-related problems. Alcohol abuse is a common occurrence on college campuses and is a widespread problem in which the public is constantly attempting to change by evaluating social factors involved that might be responsible. Even though parents and college officials are partly responsible for the student’s drinking habits, it is each individual’s own responsibility on how they are going to allow social factors and biology to shape their lives their future.
Alcohol abuse has always been a culture in almost all colleges, so many students tend to generalize college as one long party when they start to live on their own and are responsible for their own lives. The common expectation of many college students are away from home for the first time of what is to come is often a large factor in alcohol abuse. Often students assume that everyone in college are drinking, partying and abusing alcohol. Almost every motion picture popular among high school student’s present college as a cultural experience instead of an educational one. When students go away to colleges they are confronted by unexpected challenges that are not addressed in their previous envision of college. Throughout the stages of when youth begin to take risks and experiment as they transition from childhood to adulthood can be the effects of several factors, but ultimately every individual is responsible for the choices they make.

Out of four children, two of them are alcoholics of which Mrs. Sombocetti herself was lucky enough to be resilient to alcoholism. There are several pathways to alcoholism, yet it is up to each individual person to determine what they do in life.
Overall, alcohol abuse in college is a wide spread issue that can not only endanger scholastic and financial success, but can also lead to injury, sickness and even death. Parents control how their children are raised, but it is up to each individual on how they choose to live. College officials are responsible for educating their students and ensuring that they are not supporting alcohol abuse, yet it is ultimately a student’s responsibility for their own decisions.
