Cause of World War I
Unlike World War II, the causes of World War I are not as clear cut.
Historians say the war had been building up for some time prior to
1914. The "Great War" was not caused by megalomaniacs hungry for power
as in the case of Mussolini and Hitler during World War II. The
origins are more complex.
First one is the alliance Systems The causes can be explained,
more in political terms than human terms.
From the end of the Franco-Prussian War, a system of
secret alliances developed in Europe. This eventually split the
continent into two hostile sides. Because so many different powers
were involved in mutual defense agreements, when the war did happen,
it involved nearly every country of Europe. Due to the alliances, some
powers were forced to support policies followed by their partners,
which they didn't really condone. Lastly, the secret alliances led to
suspicion and the belief that far more secret agreements existed, then
was in fact, the case.
Secondly competition The competition for colonies was another
source of international antagonism.
The great powers sectioned off Africa among them,
established spheres of influence in China and sought protectorates
elsewhere. Sooner or later this rush to appropriate new territories
was bound to spark disagreements over boundaries of control.
Thirdly, militarism All the countries within the hostile camps were
building large armies and navies during the pre-war ...
“War is unorganized murder, and nothing else” (Harry Patch). In World War 1, which was first called the Great War, there were many causes of the war breaking out. The Great War started August 1st 1914 days later after the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophia, when they visited Bosnia. Many soldiers went to war for no reason but to fight for their country. The Great War was not only affected by the soldiers, but also by the civilians as well. Women replaced men in factories, offices, and shops while the men were at war so that everything would be working smoothly. The main underlying causes of World War 1 were the alliances and imperialism in Europe.
World War I was a fascinating, yet dramatic war for which there are a lot of different points of view. Some people argue that it was only Germanys fault, where-as others think that it had to do with the pressure put upon them by the other leading powers. Some of the things which triggered the war were the enormous rise in population, which happened very rapidly, caused by the Industrial Revolution. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the population of Europe was roughly 50 million; by 1820 it was about 100 million, and by 1870 it had reached the 200-million mark. By 1914 it had topped 300 million. (Stokesbury 11-12). With all the leading powers focused on the Balkans, war, to many, seemed inevitable. The new countries abused their power which was given to them by their major allies, causing enormous problems, and unnecessary tension to be built up. Alliances also caused a lot of problems like the one between Japan and England, where-after the Russians suffered a humiliating defeat against the Japanese in the East. This did not exactly improve the chances for England to ally with Russia, but luckily did not interfere too much in their relationships, and after some time they even turned out becoming allies, together with France, at the end even making military plans together. They also shared the responsibilities of protecting areas, just like England and France who protected both the Mediterranean as well as the Channel separately, making it easier for each country to focus on one area.
The world was plunged into World War II in 1939 for many reasons. The reasons were Japan invading Manchuria, Mussolini's attack on Ethiopia, and when Hitler defies The Treaty of Versailles. Appeasement was one of the biggest things that lead to World War II.Appeasement was giving in to an aggressor to keep peace. It basically postponed the War from happening but did not stop the war from happening . The Most effective response to aggression at this time was collective security because it was using the appeasement to got the countries together and didn't benefit them.
In the end no one can actually be sure of the exact cause of World War 1, they can only share their opinions based on their reasoning.
“The outbreak of the First World War in 1914 grew out of a short term
War is used as a solution to a conflict; two countries that are not getting along usually fight each other for power or to show which is stronger. Many different things cause war, but it all starts with the government. A government that is hungry for power and money would do anything to get what it wants. The more power the government has, the more power they’ll want. Another cause of war is believed to be religion, different religions describe different ideas and understandings, but those different ideas are disagreements over many things. If a government didn’t like another’s idea it causes disagreement, and that means war.
Great War, also known as The First World War, lasted for four year (1914 to 1918). It brought a huge development of war technics and weapons. More number of countries had been involved in the Great War than any previous war. It involved the mobilization of the whole nations, not just an enormous army that turned the war into a “total war”. (Clare 6) However, historians are still arguing about the major cause of the World War I. The major cause will be one of the four long-term causes of WWI, which are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. In my opinion, the two major causes would be Alliance and Nationalism. Alliance is an association between two or more countries for mutual benefits that formed with different treaties, while Nationalism is feeling and principles of patriotic.
The causes of World War One and World War Two can be traced back to political and economical roots. During the times prior, during, and post both the wars, all of the involved countries were making reckless political decisions, for example: excessive alliances that were both confusing and contradictive of purpose or treaties that had their fingers pointing a little too much at one country. Also during both World War One and World War Two, all of the countries were had little to no government, economically speaking, but that didn’t stop them from spending all of their money and using all of their other resources in order to have the biggest and the best armies, did it?
The start of World War One had begun because of the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and this had shocked the whole country. Since there were not many assassinations that had occurred in Europe, the archduke’s assassination had caused a stir not only in Europe but for the rest of the world. (Pg. 3). The assassination was blamed to the Serbians by the Austrians, who the Austrians already did not like. The murder of one person had sparked the murders of many more innocent people. Reading this week’s assignment, the author make clear of what the long term causes of World War One were.
WWII began in 1939 it was the bloodiest war in world history. It was called ‘the next Great War’. It was the Allies vs. the Axis Powers. Sixty- one nations were involved in the war, 1.7 billion people were involved in some way. Fifty-nine million people lost their lives in WWII. Over Thirty- seven people got wounded. The U.S. became involved in the war because Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the Holocaust was going on in 1939. The war lasted 6 years starting from 1939-1945. The U.S. was heisting to enter WWII.
World war one was caused by multiple reasons such as Imperialism, Alliances, and Nationalism. They all impacted and lead to this event. World war one began in 1914 and 1918.
Throughout history, there have been several conflicts that have disturbed the peace in various areas. One of these gruesome events happens to be World War I, which was evoked by many different causes. The most significant and immediate causes of this catastrophe was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie. Numerous nations were involved in this war, and two examples of opposing forces are Germany and Russia. World War I was resolved to an extent with the Treaty of Versailles, but it was not entirely settled. This is clear because World War II was a result of World War I.
lly. However, a key cause of World War II that must be acknowledged is World War I. Similarly, stated by AJP Taylor, the second world war was made possible by the first world war. However, it was not World War I that solely provoked World War II. Rather, it was the aggressive racial and expansionist policies of Hitler, who incited a multinational conflict, by invading Poland in 1939 and intending to conquer Soviet Union and Slavic lands in Eastern Europe, that gave rise to the second world war.
There were many factors that contributed to the cause of World War I. However, the three underlying causes include imperialism, alliances, and militarism. Imperialism refers to a nation wanting to expand its power. In contrast, alliances refer to two or more nations combining their forces or having a mutual agreement. Militarism is the prioritization of military power in a country (such as a country’s Navy or Army). These core causes not only created tension between the nations but small conflicts that escalated ultimately resulting in the first World War.
Preceding to World War 1, Britain was seen as a dominant imperial power, occupying one quarter of the globe. Not far behind was France also establishing many colonies all across the globe through the act of imperialism. Lastly, Russia had many colonies and political control in many nations of Eastern Europe and some parts of central Asia...
