Frist Fruit
I love when the scripture uses food to prove a point, that’s the only way to get my undivided attention besides cars. Through fruit bearing we are required to live out the nine fruits of the spirits, displaying Christ in us. Of course it’s not easy to display all nine, especially with my experience driving in South Florida. Driving from Palm Beach County to Miami Dade County I lose joy, peace, love, meekness, temperance, long suffering and particularly gentleness. That’s seven out of nine fruits, all because I have a low tolerant for simple minded drivers. Through prayer, the Lord gave me a simple situation, “Stop driving to Miami and take the train. I’ll provide transportation when you get there. If your ride is late, please practice patient (long suffering) and wait for them and not walk.” Since I travel back and forth to see my family frequently, I weigh my options seven out of one fruit lost. I can deal with those odds. I can do it alone, in order to deal with my regular drives, I must be prayed up till I get to my destination, abiding in Christ. Staying attach to the vine, the source of my strength.
Worship
Worship cycles from gestures to word of exaltation to the Lord. This chapter discuss different gesture used to captivate our Lord’s attention and three amalgamated of exaltation. Lifting up our hand in worship is towdah, an act of surrender and thanksgiving. Surrendering by rising your flag in total submission and thanksgiving in adoration to Him accepting our submission. Kneeling before the Lord is barak, another form of adoration, and the Hebrew word for bless. We bless the Lord by bow before Him, like we would do to a king or queen who enter a building.

This song took me into to worship where I was able to cry out to God, for him to use me freely. What if we Christians had faith without borders, how much can we do for Christ without fear. Walk on water, taking in an orphan and rise it as my own child, or go into the Middle East and share the gospel of Christ with no fear of death. My fear and lack of faith is hold back the Kingdom of God from moving. 2 Timothy 1:7 the Lord said he has not given us the spirit of fear, but the power of love, and sound mind (King James Version). He gave me the power to overcome all levels of fear from the lion’s fear which is what I hear, the serpent’s fear is what I see, and the dragon’s fear which is what I imagine.

In Langston Hughes' 'Salvation', contrary to all expectations, a young Hughes is not saved by Jesus, but is saved from his own innocence.

Once again, the speaker demonstrates the same desires for physical treasures that he expresses in the first stanza as he asks God to "give mine eye / A peephole there to see bright glory's chases" (ll. 39-40). Even in the God's kingdom, the speaker reveals his humanity as he focuses on ornamentation which starkly contrasts with God's divinity as He has the ability to show love even for sinners.
I have always found communion to be an important sacrament to the Christian faith, but sometimes its meaning can be lost in repetitiveness. Sara Miles, in her book Take This Bread, has shed a new light on what it means to take communion as she writes about her transformation into being a Christian by receiving bread and wine. Hunger is the main theme of the book, whether it be spiritually or physically, all humans are linked by that common need. This transformation goes beyond her and pours into the souls and bodies of the San Francisco community, by sharing not only food but the body of Christ. This book has pushed me to get past my comfort zone and heavily consider the way in which food can be an important aspect of my faith and how I share
Throughout time, food has always played a large role in every day life. One aspect of life that food really plays a large role in is religious life. It is important to recognize that the first commandment that God gave to us was a restriction on eating. Many religions have dietary laws or restrictions that explain to the people of their religion what they can and cannot eat. The first commandments that God gave to us were related to eating. In the Bible, we see the Mosaic dietary laws. These laws were set and regulated by Moses, as explained by God’s law. The Old Testament is full of restrictions regarding food consumption and what types of foods should not be consumed. I will be further examining the Mosaic dietary laws and the role they continue to play in the modern-day and in many people lives.

The Bible shows God constantly pursuing His people and man rejecting him over and over again. This passage displays this ongoing struggle by showing all Jesus did for us and how the people still shunned and rejected him. However, this passage also gives reassurance that it is never too late to repent and accept the Lord. This passage displays some important themes of the Bible: man’s redemption, God’s forgiveness and grace, and the blessing of a relationship with God. When Hughes was thirteen he attended a revival with his Aunt it was his turn to "see Jesus," his entire community and church all waiting expectantly for the moment when he was finally saved from sin. Unfortunately for Hughes, salvation did not occur. His fellow peers that he would be delivered, to Jesus convinced him. He was so caught up in the idea that when it did not happen, and when it did not, he felt like an outcast amongst his religious community. People crying, and praying for him at his feet, Hughes did not want to be the reason for all the madness happening around him. He stood up and acted as if his salvation had come to him, although deep within he knew it had not. "My aunt came and knelt at my knees and cried, while prayers and songs swirled all around me in the little church. The whole congregation prayed for me alone, in a mighty wail of moans and voices” (Hughes 111-112). Influenced by the wales and the cries, Hughes started to feel as if he was the problem, that something was wrong and it was up to him to fix it. As the congregation prayed for him alone, and his aunt cried and prayed by his feet, a wave of social pressure came to him at once. There are a sundry amount of many other greetings that they Jewish use in conversation between one another. While the attitudes and greetings of the Jewish make up the general positive outlook of the culture, gestures also play a big part in their world. The use of hands in conversations is seen as adding meaning and excitement. Also, bowing and kneeling are seen as signs of respect and usually done during Jewish services (Telushkin). The attitudes, greetings, and gestures of the Jewish culture demonstrate the whole heartedness and considerate nature of their values and customs.
Writer and member of the 1920’s literary movement, Langston Hughes, in his autobiographical essay, Salvation, elucidates the loss of innocence and faith due to the pressure of accepting a concept that he has yet to acknowledge. Hughes’ purpose is to describe his childhood experience of the burden to be saved by Jesus, resulting in his loss of faith. He adopts a solemn, yet disappointing tone to convey his childhood event and argues the unqualified religious pressure.
However, I feel that the Lord's prayer is essentially a Jewish prayer, exhibiting the form and function of contemporary Jewish prayers. As with many other studies of any writings in the Gospels, it is important to discuss how these traditions have been brought to us, and what, if any modifications were made to the original text. Therefore it would be prudent, for the purpose of this paper to first look at the literary elements of the Lord's Prayer. To illustrate why the Lord's Prayer is essentially a Jewish prayer, we must first define and explore what Jewish prayers were like during the time of Jesus.

He and his mother were very important to one another that she would really die if he was gone from her life. They share something important and that is food. Now that she has passed away he looks back on his life and thinks back to all the times they had together. The food that he ate as a child gave him such wonderful memories. Now it is something that he was able to do himself and every time he would make it, he would think about his mother and it makes him smile.
