Have you ever been fishing before? Not fishing based on lucky casts with worms or a bobber but fishing based on knowledge of what the fish do under the waves. I’ve been interested in fishing since the beginning of my time here on earth. Fish fascinate me, and catching them on rod and reel excites my inner primal being. I chose this topic to get into the mind of the fish I aim to catch. I already know much about my quarry. I know that Red Drum come in from the ocean to spawn in salt water back bays. I know that Black Drum eat stuff off the ocean bottom. I also know that Red Drum get caught by anglers during their search of spawning territory. These are the few facts I know about Drum. I want to learn much more. I want to learn enough to be called ‘Ryan the Drum slayer.’ I wonder where drum go while in open ocean? I wonder where Drum spawn and why they spawn there? I wonder how big the biggest Drum ever caught is? These questions and many more encircle my head. I hope in reaching up and snatching a circling question, then answering it, I can become the greatest fisherman in the world.
What is the scientific name of the Red and Black Drums?
Well this answer is easy. The Red Drum’s scientific species name is Sciaenops ocellatus.(Red Drum in Texas). The Black Drum’s scientific species name is Pogonias cromis. (Black Drum in Texas).
Where exactly do the fish live?
The Black Drum is found in the Western Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts coasts to Southern Floridian coasts. The Black Drum is found across the Gulf of Mexico an into North Mexican shores. The Black Drum rarely is found North of New Jersey (Schaltz, Ken ”Black Drum”).
Red Drum are found in the western Atlantic Ocean. They inhabit the coastal waters from the gulf of Maine to the Florida Keys and all of the gulf coasts to Northern Mexico. (Schaltz “Red Drum”). The Red drum are an estuarine-dependent fish that morphs into an oceanic fish later on in life. It can be found in brackish water or saltwater. It can be swimming above sand, mud, or weeds. It is found in weeds of shallow inlets, bays, tidal passes, bayous, and estuaries (Schaltz “Red Drum”). Why the drum head out of their sheltered bays and into the ocean is a mystery.

Known as Pterois Volitans in the animal kingdom, also called the red lionfish, is a sight to behold in the tropical waters as they swim like an underwater butterfly in the sea. In waters not native to their origin, as they are from the Pacific and have predators that will have them for a snack. Invasive to the Caribbean Sea they have rapidly reached the Gulf of Mexico and far south, spreading to parts of South America. The lionfish has become a persistent pest that’s more trouble than what it appears to be, attractive yet deceptive with a striking pattern of white and red stripes. In the New York Times article, A Call to Action… and Even Rodeos, scientists say that, “from 2005 onward, lionfish have become the most numerous nonnative invasive species in the world.” The average pound fish is one of nature’s clever creations, a venomous foe with spines and an infinite appetite that reproduce quickly. Invasive species are notorious because they have no or almost nonexistent natural predators and they are adapt to their new home very well. The biological adaptations of this fish has caused both ecological and economical mayhem, serious measures have been taken up to control their population as well as to protect our coral reefs.
Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.
Carp fishing seems always to have been surrounded by a certain aura of magic and mystery, particularly on the more secluded and intimate waters. It's sad that much of this has been dispelled with the carp boom of the last few years. The hair-rig started the rot, and the ready made boilie finished it off! But reading through many angler's experiences, especially on Redmire, one wonders if, at times, there are other influences at work. I don't know why there should be, or why it would seem to apply only to carp fishing. Perhaps because, of all the angling methods, the pursuit of carp gives more time for contemplation, more time for outside forces to get into the mind. Or maybe these strange happenings are
The Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is an invasive saltwater predator that is increasing exponentially in the tropics of the western Atlantic (Benkwitt, 2013). The Lionfish invasion is causing a dramatic decline in native marine reef species due the gluttony of the lionfish.
People used a lot of different methods to catch fish. Different people use different methods and believe that their method is the best or is the most ethical. Commercial fisherman and the native methods both have their similarities and their differences. Both have been effective. Native Americans for the most part used homemade tools from the resources that they had around them. Flint, bone and wood were some of the natural resources used by Native Americans for their equiptment (Primitive Fishing Tackle). Tools like spears, hooks and gaffs, nets, and weirs were all used by Native Americans for nothing more than catching fish and maybe some other aquatic life. The hooks and gaffs were generally carved from bone. A gaff is bigger than a hook, but gets lodged in the fish once it takes the bait on it. Spears were nothing more than a wooden shaft with a sharp tip (Nickson). The tips were generally carved from bone, flint, and sometimes metal. Three pronged tips were used on smaller fish so it would increase their chances of hitting the fish (Spear Fishing- Native American Way to Survival). Lines with hooks and fish traps were also used to catch fish. The natives used leather and vegetable fibers as line for their hooks an...
Since this first encounter I have caught lots of these magnificent fish and as the years go by they seem to keep getting bigger and bigger. I have developed several baits and presentations that help me to catch these fish and I would like to share them with you.
Although RedTails are common to Oregon, they aren't the only species that can be caught on the shorelines. Other fish species include Black surf perch, Shiner surf perch, Calico, Barred, Rubberlip and Walleye.
There are more than fifty different types of percussion instruments, possibly starting with the antique cymbals and maybe ending with the xylophone. There are many different classes of percussion instruments. For example there is Latin percussion instruments, Classic percussion instruments, and Modern percussion instruments. Most percussion instruments are played by shaking, using hands or using a mallet or stick and have stretched membranes. Percussion instruments also have been used to emphasize rhythm and to heighten climaxes.(1) The drums are part of the percussion instruments and is one of the world’s oldest instruments. An instrument, that is the only orchestral drums of definite pitch, is the timpani, which is also called the kettledrums.(4)
Red tides have made many people sick such as residents and tourists of Florida’s Gulf Coast. The tides also have affected many business owners because many tourists don’t want to come to beach resorts because of Red tides. Red tides are caused by two ways. One of the ways are the algae reproducing and giving an effect of toxic air. Many outbreaks have also occurred because of red tides. Such of these things include poising form fish and shellfish. To stop Red tides, many researchers have done numerous experiments to try to find a way a way to stop Red tides! There are three main solutions to stopping Red tides. If we try to do these solutions red tides will decrease in the amount of times they occur.
Native Americans and U.S. commercial fisheries started catching Atlantic salmon in the 1600s. The catches in Maine exceeded 90 metric tons in the late 1800s and 45 metric tons in the 1900s. However since 1948, U.S. commercial fisheries have remained closed. For recreational purposes, fishermen have angled Atlantic salmon since 1932. In the Dennys River in Maine,...
War has far-reaching, long-lasting, multi-faceted effects on those involved, and even those who are not. War does not discriminate, war disrupts everyone, and war is chaos. “Beat! Beat! Drums!” by Walt Whitman is a dramatic poetic response to the wide-ranging impact of war in every day life. The poem is primarily divided into three sections in which the effect of the war drums in the poem range from disturbing the “peaceful farmers” of the country to out roaring the traffic of the city, the “sleepers”, the “talkers”, the “singers” and the “lawyers”. The poem reflects the effect of the war in the din of the drums and bugles. The sound scatters the church congregations and disrupts the focus of students in schools. The poem uses meter in the rhythm of a war drum, commanding war diction and repetition that leaves a lasting impression of the magnitude of war’s disturbance in relationships, work, and happiness.
In a standard percussion set another instrument feature in the music inside folk music was bones. Handmade musical instruments implied onto a pair of castranets stringed collaborate in one piece. Bones would be played by a musician when only using one hand. Another instrument would be found in a musical band during African slavery was a concertina, a small instrument build very similar to a portable keyboard. Using the concertina, accompanied along to the music push the sides of the instrument in and out. One of the first well-known music piece would be classified was a piece titled “Jim Crow”. An interesting piece of information was the composer of the song was not a slave or African American. He was a white man although he was known in his musical compositions as a founding “father” in ministerial song writing.
There are two kinds of species of alligators. There is the American alligator and the Chinese alligator. Many people have a hard time telling the difference between alligators and crocodiles. Alligators are related in the same family as the crocodile, but these two animals are very different. An alligator’s upper jaw overlaps the lower jaw. Alligators have a broad snout while crocodile have a very narrow snout. Alligators have much less aggressive and energetic than the crocodiles. Alligators live in tropical climates and crocodiles live in somewhat colder climates. Their kingdom is Animalia. Their Phylum is Chordata. They come from the class Reptilia. Their order is Crocodylia. Their family is Alligatoridae. Their genus is Alligator and their species is alligator messissipiensis and they are known as American alligators.
