ASPD is a personality disorder characterized by a longstanding pattern of disregard and violation for other people (Antisocial Personality Disorder Symptoms 1). It is a type of mental illness that causes the way a person thinks, understands situations, and sympathizes others to be dysfunctional and negative. ASPD is characterized by the absence of empathy, impulsive behavior and facing problems with authorities. Like other personality disorders, ASPD is a long standing pattern of behavior and experience that impairs functioning and causes distress (Antisocial Personality Disorder Guide: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options 1). Common behaviors of ASPD are manipulation, exploiting and violating the rights of others, and disregarding the laws. Just like people who haven't been diagnosed, symptoms and characteristics vary from each person diagnosed. There are a wide variety of patterns and behaviors that come with ASPD.

Everyone's personality and characteristics are unique. Although, occasionally a person's way of thinking and behaving can be destructive - to others and themselves. In the case of ASPD, a person's personality becomes overwhelmed by patterns of manipulation and violation of others around them. Those diagnosed with ASPD generally have "no regard for right and wrong and often disregard the rights, wishes and feelings of others" (Antisocial Personality Disorder 1). Individuals with this disorder usually do not care if they break laws and they may often lie and place others at risk without feeling any remorse about their irresponsible actions. They, by definition, do not follow society's norms and cannot fulfill the average person's responsibilities.

...edications that have been proven to prevent, but doctors have prescribed a few that have helped with symptoms and behaviors of ASPD. A few medications that can be prescribed are antipsychotic medications, mood - stabilizing medications, and antidepressants, but they all have to be prescribed because of the possibility of the potential misuse (Antisocial Personality Disorder 5). Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertraline (Zoloft), may decrease aggressiveness and irritability. These are useful if either anxiety or depression are present also or if the person is using substances to self-medicate for anxiety or low mood (Antisocial Personality Disorder Guide: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options 4). Psychiatric medications may help with certain conditions associated with ASPD or with symptoms that people with ASPD have.
