“The sun never sets on the British empire” a true statement of the sheer power of the British empire from mid 1600s up to the second Great War, and considered one of the greatest empires ever built and definitely one of the largest. Britain is a small island located North, North West of main land Europe, shared with Ireland and Scotland to the West, being a small island country, materials were scarce to come by, but the British were able to get around this with trade and colonization. One key aspect to Britain’s success would be her navy, proclaimed in their own patriotic song Rule, Britannia! Positioned on an island and the world being 75% water they adapted very well at landing ships to the most barren remote places on earth. Hitting India, Australia, and Canada, spreading their reach should be taken with a grain of salt. Some places would become thrive and become great nations in present day, while other collapsed after resources were exhausted and the British packed up. India’s class system was able to send individuals to England to earn an education, returning home to use it for the betterment of Indians; funds were even allocated by the British to Indians for whatever they choose. Of course, we see India now a thriving country, with a rough population of 1.2 billion people and a literacy rate or 77% percent; considering religious, ethnic groups, as well as the large land mass that number is relatively high, and continue to grow. That’s just one success story of the British Empire, over the time they were in power many atrocities would take place, from slavery to making original inhabitants compared to savages; even shaping tribal boundaries, causing civil war and unease worldwide.

Participant in the financial rise and fall of the global markets, advancement of the human race, and even being collaborates in the one of the world’s largest police force. Each one of these colonies had their difficulties, and some atrocities, but that has nothing to say that life is not better without them; because without said expansion we would not be sitting, standing, or breathing this spot, but in another very different location of the world. What started as a global and economic advancement by the British, ended with both good and bad locations around the world; but that’s not to say that Canada, Australia, and India are on that list. Empire building has both its vicissitudes, and with these three countries, they have ended in the black.
