Who Was the Zodiac Killer? The Zodiac killings of the late 60s were some of the most horrific criminal acts in American history. Only five of the horrific murders were directly linked to him, but the Zodiac claimed the murders of 37 people. The first two victims were the teenage couple, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, on their first date. Betty Lou was found dead from five gunshot wounds in her back and David Faraday suffered a gunshot directly to his he head. The next victim was Darlene Ferrin on Independence Day. Darlene and her boyfriend Mike Mageu were sitting at a private Vallejo location before being approached by a masked man. This was because of the mysterious letters he sent to news outlets across the Bay area. After the first two murders took place, the Zodiac began to send several letters to the police station including claims of unknown victims, threats, and encrypted messages. These handwritten letters caused frustration throughout the entire San Francisco community because no one understood the encryption. Because all the letters were never decoded, the identity of the Zodiac killer remains a mystery today. Even in recent years, many have made efforts to decode the letters. The man behind the mask of the Zodiac killings is still a mystery today. After many efforts from police departments across northern California and even efforts made by citizens, the identity of the Zodiac killer is still unknown today.
