Have you ever read a story with things that symbolize a important role in the story ? In the story Z for Zachariah there was a War and Ann could possibly be the only one alive. Her family left to go see if there was anybody still alive other than them and they never came back. She thought she was alone until one day she finds john and he gets sick. So as he keeps getting sicker Ann doesn’t give up until he gets better als through this process there are challenges she must overcome to stay alive. This essay has three symbols that have a important significance. The first symbol is the creek because it’s a symbol of danger. The author states on page 47 “You’re sick,” I said. “You have a fever.”(O’Brien). John because he went swimming in the creek and took a bath in it Later through the book faro the dog gets sick and dies because of the creek that they both had swam in. The creek was a big part of the story because about half of the story is Ann trying to help him get better and back on his feet. It was a major impact on Ann because the only things she had left to help her was in jeopardy and after faro she only had John. …show more content…

“ Tomorrow morning I may go up near the top of Burden Hill, climb a tree and watch.”(O’Brien). She spied on him everyday to try and find out his personality and see what he was like so she could see what she was getting herself into. It also gave her hope because she wouldn’t feel alone anymore and have someone to talk to. After her family left she really had nothing to look to look forward to. When she found out there was someone out there she looked forward to something she couldn’t wait for him to reach the hill. She couldn’t wait for someone to finally talk to and not be alone anymore it gave her hope and
