Location: Zürich is a European city that lies at the north end of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland.
Trends and patterns in human settlement: Switzerland itself still has a wide range of settlement areas since the start of its history. People started out in small groups of hunters and gatherers in lowlands north of the Alps during the Paleolithic Period (beginning of human existence until around 12,000 years ago). These communities grew bigger as they met with each other and the area became heavily dense during the Neolithic Period (from 15,200 BC to 4500 and 2000 BC). The lowest point of the city is in the area of Limmat River, which is 392 metres above sea level. The highest point of Zürich is the peak of Uetliberg Mountain 871 meters above sea level.
Weather and Natural Climate: The overall weather in Switzerland is relatively moderate. June to September, the summer months, are warm. Snowfall is relative to mountainous regions. Cities like Zurich and Geneva experiences more fog during the winter season rather than other cities.
Employment: In Zürich, there are many job opportunities available for highly skilled workers and those in the financial sector. Individuals from the European Union (EU) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) are freely welcomed to Zürich to look for work. It is harder for others to receive employment in Switzerland even if they are highly skilled professionals. Zürich is Europe's most important financial centres. A third of Zürich’s wealth and a quarter of its jobs come from the finance sector. Biotechnology and life sciences are currently enriching the medical tech sector. Zürich is expanding as a tourist site, giving many employment opportunities as a tourist and/or museum guides. Public schools in Zürich are free of charge from the ages of four to fifteen and generally taught in a Swiss German setting whereas private and international schools are expensive and taught in English.
