Within California’s Sierra Nevada, flanked by towering walls of granite, lies the only valley truly deserving of the name Yosemite. For a very long time, this beautiful landscape, with its marvelous rivers and remarkable waterfalls, has been among the most loved and most visited nature reserves in the United States. Yosemite’s name is of Native American origin. Early inhabitants, the Awani, called the valley and its high granite walls “uzumati,” meaning “bear.” Over the course of time, the name “Yosemite” was derived from this word. Until the eighteenth century, the natives lived in perfect harmony with nature.
With idyllic settings ideal for relaxation, this natural wilderness is a perfect place to forget your daily routine, and a divine source of inspiration for one and all. Landscape of the park continuously offers insight into the alluring natural world. With a little luck and patience, you might even see one of the many creatures that inhabit Yosemite’s diverse ecosystem. The forests are home to a wide variety of animals, from badgers to bighorn sheep.
In certain, remote sections of this wild nature reserve, there are only a few manmade structures, including a small wooden church. Perhaps someone’s way of showing gratitude towards the creator of this pristine world. We are so fortunate to live in California and have access to so many of the properties operated by the National Park Service. There are thirteen national parks in California and I have been to seven of them. Enjoying the outdoors is something that is innate to our family. Even before our children could walk they were enjoying hikes through Yosemite in backpacks. This is an amazing fact that I learned from the map given to me in Sequoia National Park; “The only place Giant Sequoias grow now is on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. The 75 distinct groves are found within a narrow band about 260 miles long and 15 miles wide, at its widest point.” (Sequoia National Park, 2012). Without the National Park Service protecting and maintaining parks like Sequoia National Park, there may not be any place like this for my children to learn about this beautiful country that we live
Zig-zag, back and forth, down, down, down, Jonathon, Dad, and I went into a mysterious new world. Now that I have gone into this hot, dry canyon surrounded by monstrous hoodoos, I have seen what it is really like to leave the small town of Seymour, and emerge into the greatness of this world. I have now seen several other National Parks on one of the most renowned places on earth for mysterious creations, the Colorado Plateau. Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.

In 1629, a group of Franciscans stationed at the village of Oraibi named the giant mountains they saw San Francisco, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi . Opinions over the use of the peaks by Native tribes and this new influx of culture are as far apart as the names they call the mountain itself. At over a mile high, the San Francisco Mountains tower over the predominantly Anglo town of Flagstaff to the south. The mountain range was actually formed by a volcano that is now inactive. These peaks have long been considered sacred ground by thirteen Native American tribes, including the Hopi and the Navajo. As the importance of the use of the peaks has intensified among both recreationally and economically for the city of Flagstaff so too has the controversy generated more heat among Native tribes. Opening in 1937, the Arizona Snowbowl is one of the oldest running ski resorts in the country. Since that time the Snow Bowl has created adversity everywhere from environmentalists to Native Americans. The only way to understand the legitimacy of these Native American claims is to take a closer look at how the peaks relate to their religion and way of life. This will be done through the two most dominant voices of the battle, the Navajo and Hopi. This comprehension is necessary in order to fully understand the hardships and tribulations many spiritual Natives have endured in trying to protect their sacred land, even when the law is seemingly on their side.
For some people seeing a white-tail deer is magnificent. In Key West they have key deer. I doubt that in New York your going to wake up first thing and see a deer. The Canyon has many animals, including woodpeckers, wild turkey, warblers, armadillos, raccoons, red foxes, and red squirrels. The animals I have listed are all in the park. You may want to walk down the clearly marked trails by yourself or you could ask a park ranger to take you on a tour. You even can camp overnight at designated camping spots. The main driving element in William Morris’s life has been the nature around him and the houses he lived in. The most prominent influence was the Kelmscott Manor. Therefore, I chose to go with Kelmscott Manor’s layout plan that exhibits the “inspirational garden “ that led to most of his design decisions, a map that depicts the pockets in the manor and how Morris was inspired by it. In addition to this, an original drawing of the Kelmscott Manor’s exterior that depicts how the manor amalgamated within the garden. To reinforce this, I picked a watercolor of the Kelmscott Manor and a photo that captivates the various perspectives of the garden in the manor. Moving on to his designs that interprets his love for nature I picked up the very first of his wallpaper design of the trellis that has a very naturalistic touch to it with the vines which seemed to be an extension of the “inspiration garden” on to the paper. Also chose one of the wallpapers he designed during the middle of his lifetime and one of his last designs as well. The underlying concept behind picking those was to outline the consistency in his design concept throughout his life. William Morris was a poet , whose poetry and compositions were also inspired by nature, and to depict his poetry in form of naturalism concept I picked a stance from one of his compositions that talks about forest, flora and fauna which directly ties to his underlying concept. Then when the Replica was built they wanted to make it as close to the original as possible to honor and preserve the history of the land and the people that originally lived there, and who built and attended that church. Today, now that it is not used, it stands as a memorabilia of the original settlers, the work and troubles they went though and the way they got together to praise and worship. The short film Ancient Eyes, portrayed through a dog’s perspective, shows the past brokenness and destruction of Top Bridge Regional Park – and the spark of life which takes hold upon the long-ago logged area’s ruins. Early one morning, a dog hears a beautiful but melancholy melody… he follows it to Top Bridge Regional Park. There, he finds old wells, graffiti-covered and forgotten cement walls, a logged field filled with piles of junk, and the decapitated stumps of ancient trees – but life is pushing through as well. Amid the severed stumps, life blooms upon it, as well as in every darkened corner of the forest. As he progresses through the forest, the music gets louder… and leads him to find the true beauty and strength of the forest.
Yellowstone Park is the world’s first national park and the 8th largest national park in the United States. The park is primarily located in Wyoming and parts of Idaho and Nevada (56 Interesting Facts About . . . Var Addthis_config = ) It is a tourist attraction due it’s 5,000 to 15,000 years old geysers, over 45 waterfalls, canyons, rivers, hot springs, and its massive concentration of natural wildlife. Lassen Volcanic National Park is often overlooked by tourists because its proximity to the Famous Yosemite which lies close by. Located in Northeastern California, Lassen Volcanic National Park is primarily known for its numerous hydrothermal features. Lassen Peak is the highest elevation point in the park and was formed around 30,000 years ago when Tehama’s Northern flank formed a dome before a large eruption (National Parks Conservation Association, 2009). Beautiful features blooming within the park are degraded by adjacent land surrounding the park which is used for logging, grazing, and off-roading. These activities often impact the parks vegetation, wildlife and other features. Also, the implications of no fire suppression are causing a stress on the forests in Lassen and accumulating more fuel increasing the likelihood of a severe fire. All these issues and more are becoming more apparent over time.
California has numerous interesting sights. Not only the big cities but the nature to. Approximately between California and Oregon states border lyes the California’s “best kept secret.” While other national parks, such as Yosemite National Park may receive nearly 4 million visitors, the Lava Beds National Monument attracts 130,000 guests. Not having many visitors lets this monument keep its nickname.
