Practicing Yoga is associated with establishing harmony, equanimity, and balance. It has been well publicized in the mainstream media, recommended to patients by their doctors, and praised by its many practitioners. (Kwantlen Polytechnic University, 2008). Yoga can help relieve stress and tension. (Anna Coventry, 2000) In the dictionary Yoga is defined as a Hindu theistic philosophy, teaching the suppression of all activity of the body, mind, and will in order that the self may realize its distinction from them and attain liberation. In a more general term, yoga is a system of exercises for attaining bodily, mental control and well being. Therefore, yoga refers to a certain state of consciousness as well as to methods that help one reach that goal or state of union with the divine. (Ruthann Russo - North Atlantic Books – 2009) Yoga is often told to be a physical contortion, or they think it is a religion. In this paper I will explain and religion/Christianity with the yoga in Christianity, My experience as a Christian doing yoga, and the Christian yoga. To some people, yoga is simply a means of physical exercise and strengthening and improving the flexibility of the muscles. The philosophy behind yoga is much more than physically improving oneself. It is an ancient practice derived from India, believed to be the path to spiritual growth and enlightenment. (R. Bhakther Solomon, 2017) , The goal of yoga is to unite one’s transitory (temporary) self with the infinite Brahman, the Hindu concept of “God.” This god is not a literal being but is an impersonal spiritual substance that is one with nature and the cosmos. Yoga only enhanced their relationship with God and didn’t take from it. Those that only spoke negatively about yoga has not tried or they were not confident in their relationship with God. Yoga can bring you closer to God, it all depends on what you are trying to get and what you focus is while practicing
