My topic is going to be about year-round schooling on why it’s beneficial or not beneficial for school districts. My audience is the superintendent Dr. Robert Shannon of Manhattan-Ogden school district. This is important for Dr. Shannon to know this information because he will be aware of the benefits of year-round schooling since they do not have it currently. The superintendent may be resistant with year-round schooling because they may not being able to afford to pay for it, time commitment for students and teachers and academically they may not see a difference in test scores or attendance percentage.
When most people think about year-round schooling they think that there are no breaks and you just learn, learn but they are wrong. According to Year-Round School Pros and Cons “A popular YRE (year-round education) calendar uses a 60-20 plan, with students attending school for 60 days and then going on break for 20.” My audience will resist this because they are used to having 40 days off. They will feel uncomfortable and overwhelmed if decided to change all at one time. Traditional schools will normally attend classes for 80 days and then going on break for 40 days. They will also not take the break all at one time. They will spread the breaks throughout the school year so that students cannot have summer loss.
Having year-round schooling definitely costs more for the district than a traditional school year. Economic crisis has forces several schools to end the year-round calendar programs to reduce spending due to restrictive budgets. Everything would go up such as materials, teacher pay, electricity and much more expenses. Having breakfast and lunch provided for students can definitely increase the amount of money for the y...

... material they learned before the school year ended and for students sometimes they find it difficult to learn new material in a short amount of time. They would not have to rush the material during the school year since they are also teaching during the summer. The teachers are able to break down the material in a deeper meaning instead of talking about the overall main concepts. Also teachers can have one-on-one conversations with students to make sure they are clear on the information that’s given.
