The introduction to Yaswantie’s interview could have gone more smoothly. I jumped right into the interview after asking her how she was. I could have explained that I would be asking her a few questions about her college experience and I could have also explained to her that if she ever felt uncomfortable with a question, she didn’t have to answer it. She would have probably felt more comfortable during the interview. However, when I interviewed Basmatie, I made sure to mention what I was interested in learning about and that she didn’t have to answer any questions that made her feel comfortable. The question that I executed well in Yaswantie’s interview was, “Is there anything that you find difficult or worry about while attending college?” It revealed what she found difficult and what was important to her. One of the things that she found most difficult was time management. As a mother who worked full time, she had to find time to do her homework, study for tests, and have time for her family. Prior to asking the question, she said, “I have contracts with cabin companies and I don’t decide when the cabins are rented out. Some days, I’ll have 6 cabins, other days I won’t have any.” If I had paid more attention to what she said, I could have asked her to focus on a specific day like I did later in the interview. I was attracted to the Norlin Scholars community over any other opportunity at CU because I fit the Norlin Scholars program academically, socially, personally, and in terms of what I want for my future. None of the other programs I researched came as close as Norlin Scholars to matching my ideal vision for my time at CU.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
Students entering college for the first time become concerned with their college life. The students are on their own once they enter college. There are no parents or guardians telling them when to do homework, when to go to bed, or how to eat healthy. These students are now responsible for how they are going to succeed in school and meet their own needs. From the beginning, these students wonder what their experience is going to be like and are they going to handle the demands of college?
When the initial time and place of the interview is in place, I will mark it down on the calendar. Everything must be neatly organized and confidential documents need to be kept out of sight of clients. The focus of this paper is to compare and contrast a well elder and a frail elder while using Occupational Therapy Practice Framework language. While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. Lucinda is currently pursuing her degree in business at a local university. She has been attending the university for the past two-and-a-half years, and yet she is still at her sophomore year. She has earned just 26 credit hours towards her business degree. While attending the school, she also works part-time at the help-desk in one of the university labs.

And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” (Keller) College is definitely a challenge, but it is also a very beautiful thing. Many students enter college expecting knowledge and a sense of direction. It may be hard to balance school between work, you’re social life, life at home, personal issues, etc. A few challenges that I know about all too well have to deal with money, transportation, and procrastination. I have only been in college for one semester, and I have already encountered many obstacles. The biggest obstacle for me is my job. I work close to full time every week, and working so much is making it very difficult at times for me to dedicate time to my studies. My job is also making it hard for me to keep up with all of my assignment due dates.
Pursuing a graduate degree is difficult, even under the best circumstances. It was a long arduous road to discover a university that would meet my needs. Juggling my multiple responsibilities of home, work, family, and now school will require motivation. I am a student first and learning is my favorite place. Maintaining motivation to complete my Masters program will be a challenge, but will be the easiest of challenges to see it through. As an educator, academics is important and as I move through tough classes and challenging assignments, I will have the experience to share with my students who may be facing similar difficulties. There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
