David Lit 2 Pd 9 Wright Brothers “No bird soars in a calm”- Wilbur Wright. The biography by David McCullough was about two American innovative brothers who are better known as The Wright Brothers. Not only were they inventors, they were also the very first aviation pioneers. Meaning they were the first to ever set foot on a glider and fly it. “If birds can glide for long periods of time, then… why can't I?” (The Wright Brothers 106) The Wright Brothers were astonished by the fact that all of these secrets regarding aviation were preserved for years just for them to discover it. Instead of just falling to the ground it went up to the ceiling and from there it slowly descended. But eventually it broke and they were inspired to make more which eventually sparked their idea to invent the glider. “It flew across the room till it struck the ceiling, where it fluttered a while, and finally sank to the floor.” (The Wright Brothers 39) The Wright Brothers were credited and praised by people for finishing the glider and flying it successfully. Crowds of people would watch the Wright Brothers and would celebrate with them. The greatest of their accomplishments being preparation. They had both practiced a lot in their spare time and aimed for good grades with percentages around 95%. But even though they had gotten those good grades they decided not to apply for a diploma. Their affection toward the world was very great, for they put their hearts and minds into making a product that would benefit others and make travel faster. Their inventions in general were very effective and impacted the world in their own ways. Their endless efforts had gotten them very far in wealth and reputation. “Men become wise, just as they become richer, more of what they save then by what they receive.” (The Wright Brothers 231) The brothers displayed much confidence in their work, they even offered Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge the chance to be a passenger on one of the test flights.
