From the beginning Of World War II in 1939 until the end in 1945, the battles between the Allied and Axis powers were violent and caused great destruction. It became a world dispute after the attack on Pearl Harbor. From then on, countries such as the United States, France, Germany, Japan, the Soviet Union, and many others fought vigorously until a victory was achieved. World War II officially began after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the United States declared war. The war was made up of a series of major events such as the Battle of El Alamein, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Battle of Stalingrad, and D-Day which all lead to the victory of the Allied powers. Multiple events lead to the declaration of World War II, such as Germany’s invasion of Poland and the attack on Pearl Harbor. On September 1, 1939, attacked Poland after promising not to invade any other countries. Germany took control of Czechoslovakia, but also looked to invade Poland. Germany and the Soviet Union agreed to share the country equally, but Germany ended up taking Poland for itself. After the German invasion of Poland, Britain and France declared war on Germany. The declaration of war began what we know today as World War II. German leader, Adolf Hitler prepared an attack on Britain known as the Battle of Britain. Winston Churchill knew that this attack was coming when he stated, “The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin” (“Battle of Britain”). Winston Churchill prepared for the battle and he said “We shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall not surrender” (“The Battle of Britain 807). World War II was a bloody and tragic battle between the Allied and Axis powers that lasted for six years. The causes of the wars, the major events, and the results each contributed to the Allied victory in 1945. The war lead to massive destruction, a downfall in economy, and millions of people died.
