Around 1939 to 1942, the axis powers had a very dominant lead in World War 2. It almost seemed like there would be absolutely no chance of stopping them. As it’s been said, sometimes people with the highest power can make forgetful mistakes that can cost them their seat. But the amazing thing is both Japan and Germany were at their highest point in power by 1942. In just a matter of 3 years, all is lost. So the only main question that still stands: what exactly happened? Germany’s main demise in World War 2 consisted of fighting yet another two front war, but instead fighting a four front war (air, east, western, and southern front from Italy). From Italy though requires a little bit of backstory. It began with the Britain and the Italians taking key points in Africa. Britain became the dominant of the fighting, so general Erwin Rommel and some troops were sent to aid the Italians. It was a constant see saw of battles that led to the second battle of El Alamein. This battle (led by General Bernard Montgomery) was the key turning point for the Germans in Africa; leading too there surrenders and retreats out of Africa and into Italy. From here the allies head for Italy but first, Sicily must be captured. The Allies execute Operation Mincemeat. This operation consisted of planting “top secret” documents of the allied war plans for Italy attached to a corpse left too wash up on a beach in Punta Umbria, Spain. The Germans fell for this and Sicily is easily taken with the help of Montgomery and General Patton. From here, the allies attack from Salerno and slowly but steadily conquer each line of defense until the Gustav Line is reached. From here, the allies try to travel through Anzio and into Cassino to break the Gustav Line. It ... ... middle of paper ... ...rpowered Allied forces, both Powers easily collapsed in just 3 months. Japanese main fall was the loss of its main key components of naval and air warfare. The dropping of the atomic bombs would be the absolute main reason for Japanese surrender, but it doesn't exactly tell how that occurred. Through the destruction of the Japanese main artillery, they were able to easily take the islands captured by Japan in a matter of days or months. Germany’s main fall is what exactly occurred in World War 1: multiple front warfare. At the beginning of World War 2 and towards the middle of 1942, Germany had an iron fist for the European area, It wasn’t until the counterattacks of the Russians, the invasion of France by the Allied Forces, the advancement of the Allied forces through Italy, and the Strategic Bombing of German Cities that Germany finally collapsed and Surrendered.
