World War 2 was a global war that brought the United States out of The Great Depression. During World War 2, the U.S. changed economically and socially, thus moving on from the previous depression that was being faced. The U.S. was very forward in the production of wartime goods, which boosted their economy, and on the social aspect, women received more roles in society. America's response to World War II was the mobilization of an idle economy. During the war, 17 million new civilian jobs were created, industrial productivity increased by 96 percent, (World War 2 History 2009 )and there was a huge expansion of the federal government. (The American Journal 695) The government worked a lot with the programs that began during the New Deal. The War Manpower Commision moved workers to make the best use of their productivity. The Wartime Production Board invested 17 million dollars in new factories, and also used 181 billion on war supply contracts.The OPA fought inflation.
