Is there a style or kind of family with which you would be less comfortable working with than others? How might your biases impact your teaching and how would it come to terms with your feelings? I believe that I could work with every type of family even if I feel uncomfortable working with some. The families that I personally feel uncomfortable working with are families who are LGBTQ, parents who aren’t involved, and parents who ask a lot of questions. First of all, working with families who are LGBTQ would be really uncomfortable for me. I wouldn’t feel as comfortable talking to two women or two men because I wouldn’t know how to address them as the mother or the father. If I talk to them, I would feel that they aren’t really taking my advice because they don’t change or they still aren’t being involved, but I believe that there is a solution to anything. From what I’ve researched for one of my education classes, I know that these types of parents are rare because they all tend to be involved with their child’s education. If I ever get to work with these parents, which I know I will, I might email or call them to talk about it. Maybe they have a lot to do during the day that they don’t really have time to be involved in their child’s education or in the community. I will let them know that I understand them and try to look for solutions on the problem. I don’t think that teachers should judge parents based on what they see. Many times, parent’s don’t have enough time. As Gestwicki mentions, “ Parents and teachers are undoubtedly under time constraints.
