The purpose of my research is to examine the shortage of females in the technology field. I will also research reasons why females chose not to take computer classes. I will support my theory with several examples from various studies. Furthermore, I will give several strategies that can be beneficial to female students and possibly increase the number of females in future computer classes. By the end of my research, the goal of encouraging young women who are interested in the technology field to pursue technology and succeed in the computer classes and world.
I wonder if there is a correlation between these girls’ lack of confidence and support with the societal pressures to be the perfect girl who “give[s] up [her] own experience [in order to] tune into the way other people want [her] to see things” (20, Gilligan 1992). Do these standards contribute to the low number of women in STEM-related fields? In researching this topic, I found answers to these questions along with others, that may be contributing to the low numbers of females in STEM jobs. The fact that women are underrepresen... ... middle of paper ... ...ldberg machines and conveyor belts, along with other working machines (About GoldieBlox) —two ideas closely related to engineering and STEM—in order to spark a curiosity in the subject that will hopefully continue to grow as the girls get older. Adult women must also recognize that young girls are looking to them for guidance in navigating this crazy thing called life.
Advertisements like these are sending messages that in order to be successful, women have to be thin. Over the years women have proved that they can be successful no matter their body type. If you look at women who are doctors, lawyers and scientists they are not always the perfect, flawless women being portrayed in magazines and television. Women are so much more than their body types, they are more than just an object of visual lust being advertised in today's society. Being pressured into being perfect and thin is effecting the next generation of strong leadership coming from young women.
However, the growing number of female workers has developed major concerns and issues that must be dealt with by society in order for females and the business world to prosper. By evaluating the history of women and mothers in the workforce, as well as reviewing the w... ... middle of paper ... ...ain the benefits that these valuable women can potentially contribute to society. Many variables contribute to the formation of such a profound social change, but the momentum it creates holds the potential to revolutionize how America operates in the most basic of terms. For the most part, the world has surpassed America in terms of women's wage and childcare. Previous expectations of women in the workforce, the ease of change, cultural acceptance and cultural resistance, the presence of women in today’s college systems, the topic of children and childcare, roles of governments and corporations in this trend, as well as issues with speeding up such a radical movement: these matters both captivate and concern the followers of this front.
The identity established by women-selves have a larger impact on female sexuality because it representing who she wants to be. Messages and advises in book, magazines, movies and television shows seems to direct young women what they “ought to” do. But those messages are contradictory against each other, therefore, those messages confused twenty-something young women when they had not yet figure out what they want. Bell argues that “these contradictory directives leave young women in a bind, and without much help in figuring out what they actually want”(Bell 27). Yong women nowadays receive a good training on academic and career field.
Gender ideas are not the same as they were back in the 1900's. Women are being encouraged to pursue an education rather than staying at home cleaning and taking care of kids. Women need to get out of their comfort zone and give math and science a try. Plenty of women are pursuing careers in physiology, liberal studies, nursing and such, but not enough women are pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We need women's input in the new technology that is been made.
That included having childcare for working mothers. This prepared women to be more aggressive and be more demanding so society would accept them and so they could continue taking on these nontraditional roles after war (“Women in Society”). Working made women more demanding and they stood up themselves. It did take some convincing to have women join the workforce. The concept of working women was encouraged and advertised during the war because employment was necessary.
Young girls are faced with a tough decision that marketers seem to force them to make on the spot. They can choose to be popular and cool or kind, pure, and happy. The answer may be clear at first glance, but upon further investigating the once crystal clear perspective becomes muddy with the sludge of a selfish society and the egotistical way of thought. Girls are choosing to be provocative and sexy instead of nice and happy. Girls are not born with those ideas in their head, they were planted by millions of advertisements telling girls that’s how they should look and act.
The labor force for women was beginning to change as well. Women were once seen having the role of “feminine” jobs. Society saw women taking jobs like nursing and teaching. Men did not like the fact that the w... ... middle of paper ... ...e becoming available for women. Women are now using their platforms in their pageants and making them now careers.
Despite the above-mentioned factors, some women still prefer to break the barrier and continue to pursue engineering programs. Knowing that a lot of benefits could be achieved, these women get motivated to finish their studies and become engineers. Some of these benefits are: job satisfaction; variety of career opportunities; development of logical, spatial and mathematical skills; financial security; prestige; potential contribution to the society (Discovery Press, 2007). These benefits do not only concern women themselves, but also the society.
