I saw a picture once and it said “Men wouldn’t look at me when I was skinny, but since I gained 10 Pounds this New, easy way I have all the dates I want.” Know lets fast-forward to the year of 2014 everyone is at the gym because gaining 10 pounds is a huge no no! Our society in the 20th centaury has taught us that we must look like the supermodels that model on the runway on fashion week. These women don’t ever look happy. They look like they are starving themselves, and who ever said being hungry is a good thing. In the following paragraphs I will write on how the picture I have found from a couple of decades ago is totally irrelevant to our society now.
I recently stumble upon this blog with the picture that said “Men wouldn’t look at me when I was skinny”, and this really shocked me. If you see the woman in the picture she should weigh at least 140 pounds. It amazes me how the women fifty years ago thought being skinny was not normal. ...t have the “beach body” companies like Hanes and Dove have been using models who look healthy as spoke persons for their companies. Covergirl has used queen Latifah as their spokesperson and has done an incredible job being the representation of beauty not only for weight, but also for her culture. Many different singers and actresses have promoted eating disorders. For example we have seen that the famous Demi Lovato has openly talked about her own fight with bulimia. Being one of the biggest teen icons in the world today she has been able to say I’m not perfect, and yes I have struggle with bulimia but you can only get better. Woman sometimes we don’t understand why we do the things we do, but the media, pictures, television affects us in positive and negative ways. As we continue to be woman we will probably continue to fall in the same trap over and over again.
