Wilson’s Farm Market is a fresh farm market that began in 1968. Bill Wilson, Sr. started the market on his own. The business was originally a “fresh-egg” business that was a self-service retailer. When the business was first started, they had just an old refrigerator and an old muffin tin. Since there was no one there to man the station all the time to begin with, this was done on the honor system. Customers would then choose the eggs they wanted from the fridge and put their money in the old tin for how many eggs they wanted. Besides their produce, they also sell products such as hand-dipped ice cream, homemade jams and jellies, fruit pies, cobblers, apple dumplings, Amish cheese, homemade baked goods, and one of their most popular items is their pretzel bread. Generally, they really target anyone and everyone who knows about them. However, the real target market is generally people who want to buy their food, produce, and novelties from a more local store. From the months of about the beginning of April to October, they have a lot of competitors because many places will open just for the summer to fall season. Wilson’s have to stay competitive during this time because they have many other mom and pop farmers markets that they have to compete with.
