Willie Hugh Nelson was born April 29, 1933, in Abbot, TX he is known for being an American musician, singer, songwriter, author, poet, actor, and activist. According to Wikipedia Nelson was born during the Great Depression and raised by his grandparents. Nelson wrote his first song at the age of six and joined a band at the age of ten. After graduating high school Nelson joined the Air Force in 1950, his career was short lived due to back problems he was honorably discharged. Nelson then attended Baylor University during this time, he worked as a disc jockey in Texas radio stations and a singer in honky-tonks after two years in college his music career took off and he dropped out. In 1956 Nelson made his first record "No Place for Me" this recording failed. In 1958, Nelson signed a contract with D Records and sang at the Esquire Ballroom weekly and still working as a disk jockey. During that time, he wrote songs that would become country standards, song such as "Hello Walls" and "Crazy". In 1962, he recorded his first album, "And Then I Wrote".
