Century after century, there have been thousands of written works of literature. Through these years, there has been many great authors, poets, and playwrights. However, nobody has passed William Shakespeare as the best English literature writer in history. Sadly, there is a lack of documented information about his life to know exactly how he lived and what went on in his life. In fact, there is such a lack of information that there are some speculations that he never even existed. Due to the unknown date of birth, it is believed by scholars that Shakespeare was born either around or on the 23rd of April. According to “William Shakespeare Biography”, this date is thought to be the date of his birth because he was baptized on the 26th of April (Bio.com). William had five other siblings in the Shakespeare family. He had two sisters, Joan and Judith, and three other brothers, Edmund, Gilbert, and Richard. Throughout Shakespeare’s childhood, he had a better education than most. In the book “Will in the World”, it is explained that Shakespeare probably attended King’s School in Stratford (Greenblatt, Stephen). It is assumed that Shakespeare did qualify for free tuition, and that he was taught reading, writing and the classics. However, there has been suspicion about his education that has made some raise eyebrows about Shakespeare’s ownership of his work and even if Shakespeare ever existed. On the other hand, most scholars believe that Shakespeare was indeed a real person and his works were valid. At the time, William was only eighteen while Anne was twenty-six. Later, their first child, Susanna, was born on May 26th, 1583, but this wasn’t their only child. The couple gave birth to twins, one named Hamnet and the other Judith. Sadly, Hamnet died at the age of eleven. According to “William Shakespeare”, it is believed that he began to earn a living as an actor and a playwright in London (Poets.org). During this time span, it is possible that Shakespeare began to produce several plays. By the 1590s, it is documented that Shakespeare was working in an acting company called Lord Chamberlain’s Men, and was later renamed to King’s Men when King James I was crowned. This was when Shakespeare began to take off his career. In 1599, William and his partners began to build their own theater called the Globe. According to “William Shakespeare Biography”, fifteen out of his thirty-seven plays were written by this point (Bio.com). Finally, Shakespeare began to write his plays that would affect the world for forever. Shakespeare’s first plays were mostly historian with the exclusion of Romeo and Juliet. These plays included all three parts of Henry VI, Henry V, and Richard II. According to “William Shakespeare”, he then went on to write several other plays like Merchant of Venice, Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, As You Like it, and Midsummer Night’s Dream (Poets.org).
