Whenever and wherever human beings are gathered together in large numbers, they need leadership. A leader is someone who many people look to for direction, guidance, and inspiration, so it is important for our leaders to have the aptitude to make difficult decisions and to know and do what is right for the people. Leadership is a quality hidden in the personality of a human being. Our society depends on the abilities of our leaders and how well they can do their jobs. In today’s day in age a leader is a lot more than just someone who is in charge of a group of people but someone who conforms the people around him to be better as a whole. On that note, Bill Gates, a self-made Harvard dropout, is an effective leader because of his leadership qualities, determination, and intelligence.
Leadership qualities are the backbone of every leader. A leader is someone who stands not only for his cause but takes responsibility and motivates other individuals also. There is a clear difference between being a boss and a leader. A leader is encouragement for others and inspires them to aim high. However a boss only supervises over his workers. Bill Gates was a guy with all the money in the world, yet he showed up every day to help and grow his company. Bill was a guy with many great leadership qualities. “If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader” (Sornapudi). This is true when it comes to the leadership shown by Bill Gates. He had the desire to create a company that would one day revolutionize the way computers are use. Everyone thought he was crazy when he started to pursue his career and now look at it; Microsoft is worth over “$51.12 billion” (Schneider). Microsoft Corporation is the worldwide leader in software...

I have observed throughout my years of working in different corporate settings, that a successful leader is someone who is innovative, a person who takes risk, empowers subordinates, and encompass the ability to inspire others to strive to be excellent. Robbins and Judge (2011) claims, “...
Peter Drucker once said, “Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.” Peter, a management consultant, educator, and author, gives us a description of one of the qualities many aspire to, leadership. Many believe that they were born to be leaders, but a leader is not born but made. Douglas MacArthur, America's most famous field commander and general, once said, “A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.” A good leader stands out by their qualities, talents and values. What make a good leader are honesty, communication, confidence, commitment, positive attitude, and creativity. A unique kind of leadership is being a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." -Bill Gates (Bill 1). Microsoft Windows, as of October 2013, is used by approximately 85 percent of all laptops and desktops worldwide (StatCounter 1). The Windows operating system is the pride and joy of the programmer, inventor, and co-founder of Microsoft, William Henry Gates III. His impact on the world has been astronomical resulting in many advancements in science and technology that just wouldn’t have been possible without him. In order to fully understand his significance and influence in the world, one must be knowledgeable of his background, the critics view of his most famous achievement, and must have a discussion about his impact and importance in the modern world.
Bill Gates He is the richest man in the world. His former friends, who are now
William Henry Gates III was birthed in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. His parents were William Henry Gates, Jr. and Mary Maxwell. Bill’s father was a prominent lawyer in Seattle, Washington, and his mother was a school teacher, University of Washington regent and the United Way International chairperson. Bill Gates’ upbringing was that of privilege and opportunity, wanting for nothing while growing up. Bill was innately curious and quite intelligent drawing him to computer technology early in life. While in the seventh grade, at age 13, he wrote his first computer program. This was when he met his best friend and later business partner, Paul Allen. Gates went on to form a group in high school of programmers that automated their school’s payroll system and then started a company called Traf-O-Data (Bill Gates, 2014) Traf-O-Data sold traffic counting systems to local city governments all before he finished high school (Bill Gates, 2014).
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human understanding. It doesn’t seem like much, but for a majority of people it can be almost impossible. These qualities alone listed above are some of many important qualities that will allow a leader to inspire and guide a group of people towards goals successfully.
Becoming the richest man in the world, Bill Gates is one of the most influential men. Not only is Bill Gates one of the most influential figures in the world, but he is also one of the most influential figures in the business world. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Gates was born into already well established family. “His father, William Henry Gates Jr., was a successful lawyer, and his mother, Mary Maxwell, was chairwoman of United Way International.”(Stevenson).
Leadership in business is critical, no matter what industry it is, as leading people is a critical part of any successful business enterprise. Although some believe that great leaders are born, there are many qualities that can be developed that can help almost anyone become a great leader.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
He had helped IBM with an operating system for their new personal computer coming out soon. “In order to meet the IBM deadline, Gates paid $50,000 for the rights to a rudimentary operating system called "Q-DOS" ("quick and dirty operating system") designed by a Seattle programmer. Gates and his team made some adjustments to the system and added some new features, renaming the result MS-DOS (after Microsoft)”(McGuire 1). Bill Gates had made his first operating system which was the kickstart to his new company called Microsoft. One problem he went through was when his amazing success brought him to court.
On October 28, 1955 William H. Gates III (nicknamed "trey") was born in Seattle. His father was a lawyer (William H. Gates II) and his mother was a schoolteacher. He also had two older sisters who were in high school when Bill was born. Bill attended a public elementary school before he moved to a private school in North Seattle named Lakeside. Lakeside's strong academics enabled Bill to actively get involved with computers (which were the love of his life next to baseball) and use his superior intellect. This was the beginning of a long and successful career in computers. Bill combined his intellect and visions of technology along with his active participation in may charities to make our world a better place.
