The romanticism era was a movement in history that mainly focused on visual arts, music, and literature. This era was happening between 1800 and 1860. The romanticism period is sometimes observed as a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. One of this era’s longest lasting effects was its effect on politics and nationalism. Paintings during this time had an emotional appeal. Bringing light to the feelings of horror, wonder, and apprehension/fear. The modern term “romantic” is said to be derived from the romanticism period.
Romanticism was a period when people encouraged artists freely expressing their emotions and feelings. Art was to be derived from the artist's imagination with little interference from other outside forces. Artists were considered geniuses. To be considered a genius, you were someone who was able to produce art from nothing. This was the key to romanticism. Romantics had a strong connection with nature. They had very little trust with the human world. Having a good connection with nature was a key concept to being mentally and morally healthy. The romanticism period initiated an interest in the supernatural. Looking into the afterlife and what the different religions believe happen.

A story that has this is “Paul Revere’s Ride,” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This story is about the night that Paul Revere announced the arrival of the british soldiers during the Revolutionary War. This story was a work of romanticism because the story is written in honor of Paul Revere. The story looks as Revere as this huge hero. The story does not follow all of the facts of the real story. There was actually more people spreading the news than just Revere. The concept of one person delivering news to thousands of people is unrealistic. This story is idolized to Revere.
