William Blake an amazing romanticism poet could write an entertaining poem, but the poems also had a cretic of society. Blake would express the way he saw society through his poetry and some of these poems can be spot on if you really start to analysis and look at society compared to the poems. William Blake has written many entertaining poems and a majority of them cretic society and shows what the society used to be and is still like today. In William Blake’s The Lamb and The Tyger show the different types of people in society, The Chimney Sweeper shows how children are hurt, and Infant Sorrow shows the rebels in society.
The two poems of William Blake, The Lamb and The Tyger are two poems that show the different kinds of people in society. To start in the poem The Lamb this shows a person whom is very innocent and caring. It is said in the poem “Little Lamb God bless thee.” Meaning a creature that is so innocent and kind and cute is created by God. This kind of person is also created by God, is innocent, kind, and cute just as well as the lamb. Now on the other hand, you have The Tyger which is also written by William Blake. This poem shows a different type of person in Blake’s society. This person is angry, mean and very dangerous. In this specific poem asks “What the hand, dare seize the fire? And what shoulder, and what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart?” It’s in this statement that Blake asks what kind of person could create such a monster as a tiger. Which he ponders the question of if God could have created something as horrible as a tiger when he had created something as innocent as a lamb. In the end literature has had an effect on society and how well it runs, or how well it doesn’t run. Like in The Lamb and The Tyger there are different people is this world and there always will be. Just like there will always be lambs and tigers. The Chimney Sweeper shows the sad life of an orphan how orphans had in fact became orphans. This is the same in today society with the way child labor laws are used to protect children, so this kind of thing never happens again. The final poem of William Blake Infant Sorrow shows the way youth of all age’s rebel against society, parents, and even the world itself. This occurrence still happens in today’s society every day and most likely continue to go on. William Blake, was born in 1757 and died in 1827, created the poems “The Lamb,” “The Tyger,” and Proverbs of Hell. Blake grew up in a poor environment. He studied to become an Engraver and a professional artist. His engraving took part in the Romanticism era. The Romanticism is a movement that developed during the 18th and early 19th century as a reaction against the Restoration and Enlightenment periods focuses on logic and reason. Blake’s poetry would focus on imagination. When Blake created his work, it gained very little attention. Blake’s artistic and poetic vision consists in his creations. Blake was against the Church of England because he thought the doctrines were being misused as a form of social control, it meant the people were taught to be passively obedient and accept oppression, poverty, and inequality. In Blake’s poems “The Lamb,” “The Tyger,” and Proverbs of Hell, he shows that good requires evil in order to exist through imagery animals and man.
I think that William Blake is an important person because his poetry worked to help people find a way to express themselves about how they feel about war. His poetry also helped people see how the kings dominated the people. This world is different because William Blake lived because he made up two new movements like the “Romantic movement” and the “Pre-Romantic movement.” Knowing about William is helpful in my life because he taught me that determination and want will take you far. He also taught me that you don’t have to change the way you do things in order for people to like it as long as you like it yourself. In my point of view William was one of the best poets of his time with not that much recognition.
In this essay I am going to be looking at two poems from the Songs of innocence and experience works. These poems are The Lamb and The Tyger written by William Blake. Both these poems have many underlying meanings and are cryptic in ways and both poems are very different to each other. In this essay I will be analysing the two poems, showing my opinions of the underlying themes and backing them up with quotes from the poems. I will compare the poems looking at the similarities and differences between them and also look at each one individually focusing on the imagery, structure and the poetic devices William Blake has used. Firstly I will look at the Tyger a poem about experience.

English poet and activist William Blake addresses the concept of human existence in his Romantic poems, “The Lamb,” and “The Tyger.” In both poems, Blake presents the ideals of innocence, and acquaintance, demonstrating the contradictions and similarities between untainted existence, and the effects of modern worldly life.
William Blake was probably more concerned than any other major Romantic author with the process of publication and its implications for the interpretation of his artistic creations. He paid a price for this degree of control over the process of printing, however: Blake lived in poverty and artistic obscurity throughout his entire life. In Blake’s poem “The Tyger,” the creature is not only a symbol but a creature being immortalized by the author’s idea of him. Blake paints a literary image of the animal by describing his “tawny” coat against the darkness of the forest; “Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night.” He discusses the creation of the tiger through the questions “Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?” At the time, Lamb was a parallel to Jesus Christ. The Romantic Age was about human creation and moving away from traditional beliefs; therefore Blake’s references to other kinds of craftsmanship such as the pounding “anvil”, the “furnace” and “hammer” are implying that the bright animal was molded by human creativity and art, not a God’s. The boldness of declining existence of an omniscient God during the late 18th century only goes to further display the theme of rebellion and breaking away from orthodox ways.
The theme of authority is possibly the most important theme and the most popular theme concerning William Blake’s poetry. Blake explores authority in a variety of different ways particularly through religion, education and God. Blake was profoundly concerned with the concept of social justice. He was also profoundly a religious man. His dissenting background led him to view the power structures and legalism that surrounded religious establishments with distrust. He saw these as unwarranted controls over the freedom of the individual and contrary to the nature of a God of liberty. Figures such as the school master in the ‘schoolboy’, the parents in the ‘chimney sweeper’ poems, the guardians of the poor in the ‘Holy Thursday’, Ona’s father in ‘A Little girl lost’ and the priestly representatives of organised religion in many of the poems, are for Blake the embodiment of evil restriction.
The first piece of evidence by Blake that identifies the pressure of society placed upon the children is Blake’s particular use of rhyme scheme. Starting with the last two lines of the first stanza of the poem, Blake immediately jumps in to depict his disparaging opinion of society by enforcing the lack of parental protection present for these chimney-sweeping children. The rhyming lines, “I was very young/ … yet my tongue” (3-4) introduce the idea that this individual (the speaker of the poem) was so young and innocent that he could not only say the word “sweep,” but more importantly, that he also could not stand up for himself even against his own father, and oppose the job that he was forcefully sold in to. In this essay, I will argue that William Blake’s poem “The Tyger” alludes to his belief in a darker side of creation and the implications of the Industrial Revolution, my argument is based on Blake’s use of rhetorical questions, word choice, and the poem’s context; specifically in the fourth and fifth stanzas. In the beginning of the poem the tiger appears as a striking and wondrous creature, however, as the poem progresses, the tiger takes on a symbolic meaning, and comes to be a physical manifestation of the spiritual and moral problem the poem explores: creation, divine and manmade.
