Why is Nanotechnology Being Used?

My group's topic is nanotechnology, and my sub-topic is; why is nanotechnology being used? Nanotechnology is a relatively new form of technology that uses the smallest of particles, in order to enhance everyday items that we use. It is currently making headway in all sorts of different areas, everything from the human body to sports to green energy. Our health is being improved by creating cancer killing nanorobots and anti-bacterial band-aids. Batteries in our phones, laptops, and cars are becoming smaller, along with green energy becoming more efficient. Nanotechnology is becoming cheaper for the everyday person, and is the future of microscopic technology in order to make our everyday lives easier, healthier, and more efficient.

A.) Nanotechnology is effecting everyday people through the use of antibacterial nanomaterials. Band-Aids are able to have more of an abundance of anti-bacterial nanoparticles on them, allowing them to be more effective in healing wounds. In particular, silver is being used for its anti-bacterial properties, and is working well, because of the increased surface area that nanoparticles provide(Dutton, 2012). Along with Band-Aids, Sunscreen is being enhance with aluminum oxide, which absorbs sunlight. When aluminum oxide is put into a nanosolution, it won't degrade when it comes in contact with sunlight, so the anti UV ray properties that aluminum oxide has stays intact. Another use of nanotechnology that is affecting us every day is in our toothpaste. Certain types of toothpaste have nanoparticles of calcium and silver in them. These particles help to fill in cracks of your tooth enamel which leads to cavity prevention. This nanotechnology also will kill bacteria ...

...carbon dioxide emissions. Nanotechnology is helping green energy to become less expensive and more efficient, which helps our air to be less polluted with greenhouse gases.

Every day, our lives are being improved through the new advancing forms of technology, specifically nanotechnology. Scientists are using nanomaterials and nanoparticles to make everything from cell phone batteries to nanorobots, in order to enhance our quality of life. Our health is improving through the anti-bacterial properties of some nanoparticles, and small robots that can travel through our bloodstream. Our earth is benefiting from this technology as well, with the growing efficiency of batteries and green energy. Nanotechnology is changing every aspect of our lives, and the future of it is going to take us places and create new products that we would have never imagined.
