Wind Turbines: Why has it caused so much controversy in Puerto Rico?

As the Law of Conservation states, energy can be neither created nor destroyed (The Secret Lives of Energy). That means that an energy source has to be use in order to generate the energy needed. It is common knowledge that the pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels over time is making society live in a contaminated world. In addition, the cost of the use of fossil fuels is increasing and becoming too expensive, forcing people to find alternate ways in which they can pay less for the use of energy. The use of fossil fuels over time has increased to a point where the remaining reservoirs have decreased by a large margin. On the other hand, renewable energy is having a boom in its use and demand because of various reasons. Even though renewable energy is so great for the environment, it has a major downside. According to the website Renewables Talk, Energy sources such as wind and sunlight are intermittent, meaning that they are not always present. Because of this, they have to be combined with other storage technologies, such as batteries, to work efficiently and provide power when the source is practically nonexistent at the moment (Haluzan).

Throughout the world, wind turbines are in high demand and are receiving support from society. Wind turbines use Aeolic Energy, which is the same as wind energy, to generate power. Wind Energy is the world’s cleanest source for the generation of electricity because it causes no pollution or greenhouse type gas emissions that may harm the environment (World Changing: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century, 174). Even though wind is intermittent, there will always be some amount of wind energy during the day. ...

... making the project longer than planned. In Bacardi, it was another story. The project was planned correctly and led to the support from the community. It was a pilot project for a eco-friendlier approach in the island. The support from Bacardi, Aspenall Energies, and government agencies led to the development of the project with no major obstacle.

Wind turbine projects are starting to have a boom in the world, since Renewable Energy is essential for the well-being of the planet. With the involvement of the community and good planning like in Bacardi, these projects can be done with no interruptions. The Santa Isabel wind farm can be taken as a model to what to improve on the next project to prevent any obstacles on the development of another project. Improvements can be made using the Bacardi project in order to have the smoothest process possible.
