Plagiarism is when someone copies that exact words or summarizing someone else's work and claiming it as their own. The main issue of plagiarism especially in school work is that the student didn’t put forth any effort, yet gets the same grade as someone who did their work. When it comes to school work I feel it is more of a sense of integrity and for learning purposes. If it is to take a sentence or two for a paper then I don’t feel it’s that wrong or should be greatly penalized. If someone were to just copy a whole essay for school the that is when someone should be penalized. On a legal scale I think that any kind of idea stealing should be condemned because I feel that you shouldn’t steal for profit. It is more important when a person plagiarises when it involves money. I don’t feel as though it has anything to do with making it okay to cheat and lie. I feel like people plagiarise on school work because they are lazy not because it is okay. A little bit it is the fact that the student doesn’t believe that their own work would be good enough to receive a decent grade on. It is a sense of keeping grades up than plagiarising because it is okay or they won't get caught doing it. This also doesn’t apply to everyone. A person might cheat or plagiarise because they don’t care enough to learn themselves and work hard on their own. I also feel like the technology of today help prevent plagiarism with websites like turnitin which helps teacher catch students who want to try and plagiarise. When I think of plagiarism, I imagine a person literally stealing from another individual. The term plagiarism is derived from the Latin word plagi rius, which essentially represents the felony of kidnapping. An individual who kidnaps anothers work is a felon. Obviously, this form of larceny is not as immoral as the form for which one can be imprisoned; however, most educators and honest students view plagiarism in this manner. Within education I conceive that there are two kinds of plagiarism: copying a paper word-for-word and not providing the correct recognition to the original author when utilizing their composition. I believe that each situation of plagiarism should be considered serious enough to investigate in order to determine an appropriate consequence. If an individual is not clear on how to cite works properly within the context of an essay, then the omission should be determined non-intentional and, therefore, not subject to punishment. However, if someone deliberately duplicates somebody elses work, then he or she should be reprimanded. This form of pilfering usually occurs in the higher levels of education, as in high school or college.

It revolves around society’s ideas of intellectual and private property. It is considered to be a form of cheating. Often times in elementary schools and high schools, plagiarism is discussed as bad but is not actually prevented. Plagiarism is centralized around taking a sentence or how paper of someone's and calling it yours while Copyright infringement is centralized around using a piece of work that has been copyrighted such as someone using the Disney logo on a shirt and selling them without permission from the Disney Corporation. Committing either of these can make you end up in some serious trouble whether it be with your school or a big corporation.
