Plagiarism is when someone copies that exact words or summarizing someone else's work and claiming it as their own. The main issue of plagiarism especially in school work is that the student didn’t put forth any effort, yet gets the same grade as someone who did their work. When it comes to school work I feel it is more of a sense of integrity and for learning purposes. There are consequences to plagiarizing in school like failing a course or receiving a zero on the assignment. That is why a person shouldn’t plagiarize because it won't benefit them in the long run. If it is to take a sentence or two for a paper then I don’t feel it’s that wrong or should be greatly penalized. If someone were to just copy a whole essay for school the that is when someone should be penalized. On a legal scale I think that any kind of idea stealing should be condemned because I feel that you shouldn’t steal for profit. It is more important when a person plagiarises when it involves money. I don’t feel as though it has anything to do with making it okay to cheat and lie. I feel like people plagiarise on school work because they are lazy not because it is okay. A little bit it is the fact that the student doesn’t believe that their own work would be good enough to receive a decent grade on. It is a sense of keeping grades up than plagiarising because it is okay or they won't get caught doing it. This also doesn’t apply to everyone. A person might cheat or plagiarise because they don’t care enough to learn themselves and work hard on their own. I also feel like the technology of today help prevent plagiarism with websites like turnitin which helps teacher catch students who want to try and plagiarise. I feel like this is a good thing because it would motivate students to do their own work and properly
