There are many undocumented immigrant youth that don’t have the chance to become a greater contribution to the American society. Mostly as a result of the reason they have no legal status to live in the United States. That is why the DREAM act should be enacted, considering it will give those immigrants a chance to fully contribute, and benefit this great country. One of many reasons that the DREAM act should be passed is, young immigrants who had no choice but to come to this country will have a chance to obtain temporary residency status. The second reason being, it will bring a plethora of economic and workforce boost. Since immigrants would be able to attain legal status, according to James Hermes (2008), Serious Implications, DREAM act creates a path for one million high school graduates to higher education which will also increase competitiveness of the nation’s workforce. Also mentioned in the article is that Microsoft Corporation founder Bill Gates advocates for immigration, and education policies due to the amount of skilled workers found abroad. According to J.C. Jara (2008) “The Economic Benefits of Passing the DREAM Act”, if the DREAM act was to be in effect it would add $329 billion dollars to the economy and it would also create 1.4 million jobs by 2030. It also would remove a lot of the “under the table” and businesses would be obliged to follow the system. Also stated by Stephanie Valencia (2013),” 10 Reasons We Need The DREAM Act” there was a study conducted at UCLA that says that DREAM act would add 1.4 to 3.6 trillion dollars in taxable income depending how many gain legal status. There are an abundant amount of immigrants who would wish to become part of the U.S. Airforce, Marines, and Navy, but won’t be able to because of their legal status. In fact, the DREAM would remove that barrier since of the prerequisites of the DREAM act is to either study in a higher education institute, or serve in the military force. Also, Secretary of Defense Gates says that the bill will increase the recruiting pool, which would be an advantage to the military. Richard Durbin (2010) mentions that an important part to our military force is diversity, since there is not enough Hispanics currently enlisting. Also, immigrants have a high habit of serving military services, and approximately more than 65,000 are serving in tours.
