Tobacco Advertisement Must Be Banned
America needs to eliminate all tobacco advertisement targeted towards teenagers because of the detrimental effect it has on their well-being. The key reasons as to why tobacco advertisement should not be aimed towards teenagers mainly focuses around how cigarette advertisements encourage regular smoking habits for teenagers. If teenagers are encouraged to perform this hazardous act then the deaths will continue to increase. According to the American Journal of Public Health, acquiring an addiction is at its peak through out the teen years. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths among both men and women in the US.
Why do tobacco industries target teenagers the most? Tobacco industries target teenagers the most because they are in the early stages of experimenting with smoking. Nearly 9 out of 10 smokers started smoking by age 18, and 99% started by age 26. There are 8.6 million people live with a serious illness caused by smoking. Smokeless tobacco also contains twenty eight carcinogens and is known to cause oral and pancreatic cancer. Smoking also can reduce the level of vitamins in a person’s body. (Graves, Bonnie B. What are carcinogens and how are they related to tobacco products? A carcinogen is a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue. There are over seventy known carcinogens found in mainstream smoke. Also, 250 known dangerous chemicals in tobacco smoke and at least sixty-nine of them are cancer causing.
