There are more than 420 thousand student athletes in the NCAA. They all play a lot of different sports football,basketball,soccer. The athletes play a lot of different sports and some of them go to the professional and some do not . The average Football Bowl Subdivision Player is paid 137,357 per year, and the men's basketball player gets paid 289,031per year. The players earns just $23,204 in scholarship money to go to there college that is not enough to pay for all there needs. That will barely pay for books and food and everything they need to keep their hygiene good . Then they will have to save all there money all year long they get there next check for the year. They do not have time to try to get a job due to the time they put in to the sport . College athletes should be paid to play the sport they play because they are playing at a high level of play in that sport. “It was only a few years ago that Richard Sherman was a student-athlete struggling to make ends meet.” this is stated in the article Sherman, Bennett sound off on struggles of NCAA athletes. They dedicate most of their time to the school and the sport and out here struggling to make ends meet some can't even pay for school books and but try they best to make it how they can that's why college athletes should be paid …show more content…

They put 70% of their time it to the sport so the ones that do not have like benefits and scholarships and stuff like that they got to get straight out of practice and go to there classes then they got to go to work or go do what they need to to get some money. Then with them doing that it will take a physical toll on your body. You want be fully rested you will barely get 4 to 5 hours of sleep. If it came down to that then they will end up failing a lot of they classes because they are going to go in the class very tired and not rested. Then if they do not get rest then it will show on the field you want be practicing at 100% then your coaches will be looking like what is going on. This is why college athletes should be paid. A Lot of the athletes struggle to make ends meet in their everyday life. They barely be able to afford books and all the accessories they need in there everyday lifestyle. And say they get hurt and they do not have enough money to pay their doctor bills and for all the treatment they need to fully recover to get back to 100% to be able to play the sport they play. That's why they need to be paid because football is a very dangerous sport and they are going out there every day risking it all just to get to the pro’s and only 1.6% makes it so that means 98.4% are just there risking it all. It should only be fair these players get a piece of the revenue pie, after all they are the ones creating the revenue. The players should be getting benefits to allow them to pay for basic college needs, grow up to be responsible adults, and allow the NCAA to thrive.
