He begins by addressing one of the most common reason of why homosexual relationships are wrong, which is because homosexual sex is “unnatural”. He went on to explain that there are many things that people do that are also considered unnatural, but are not frowned upon. He also addresses a common argument, which is that since animals do not do it, then humans shouldn’t do it either. I agree with Corvino when he says that this is truly flawed. I am comparing Tom murphy and John Colter. They both ventured into Yellowstone national park. They ventured alone into Yellowstone National Park. A difference between the two is that Tom murphy knew what this place was John Colter did not. That could have given Tom Murphy an advantage over John Colter. When Tom murphy got to someplace he didn’t have to tell people about it or people would know what he is saying because this is modern times and people know about Yellowstone. They both probably had to face bad weather in Yellowstone and Tom murphy definitely had to face bad weather.
Newjack is Ted Conover’s personal memoir as a correctional officer in one of New York’s famous maximum security prisons: Sing Sing. The job of a correctional officer consists of long days locking and unlocking cells, moving prisoners to and from various locations while the prisoners beg, aggravate and abuse them. After a short time at the academy and a brief period of on-the-job training, Conover found himself working, often alone and always unarmed, in galleries housing sixty or more inmates. He heard of many stories that happen in prison. Stories include inmates beating inmates and burning their cell house, an inmate who was beaten by correctional officers after striking an officer in the head with a broom handle. Surprisingly, there are even some instances where there are voluntary sexual encounters between female staff and inmates. It is really a welcoming job for the “newjacks” and for the readers. On top of that, supervisors do not mentor or guide new officers and officers on one shift push problems off onto the next. Conover sees and realizes that correctional workers are very flexible characters, neither good nor bad, but must cope with stress and problems in a well-organized manner. As Conover points out, that at Sing Sing is against the possibility of staff getting to know prisoners. It is ridiculous to see that there are problems that prison administrators clearly could have solved but do not, instead, they care more about the inmates and officer’s relationship. In particular, enticements for better supervision and more support for effective staff are clearly needed.
He examines the core arguments against homosexual sex such as: it is abnormal, the idea that homosexuals choose to be that way, it goes against the purpose of our sexual reproductive organs, it is disgusting and how it goes against biblical teachings. He first looks at the meaning of homosexual sex being “unnatural”. It is hard for him to claim that one definition of natural is right compared to another person’s. He does argue against the idea of natural law theorists by saying that many things that are important in our society are not natural, and there are many natural things that people detest. He says, “If the unnaturalness charge is to be more than empty rhetorical flourish, those who levy it must specify what they mean”(Shafer-Landau 239). Disease and death are natural things that people do not like. Cancer is natural but no one believes that it is just or good. Then there are unnatural things people enjoy in life such as medications and a democratic government. These examples refer back to Corvino’s quote, challenging the true intentions of those who argue things based on naturalness. Another challenge to the naturalness of homosexuality is the idea that a homosexual person chooses to live that lifestyle, they were not born that way. We must trust that the very knowledge of the natural and biological springs of sexual abnormality will bring about the recognition that the syndrome is natural, and may change our perceptions of what is normal. After all, the problem, such as Bornstein stated, is with our intolerance that they do not conform with what we think is 'normal' gender identity and sexual behavior. Though it is our biologically wired mind that makes us intolerable and aggressive to the 'outsider', it is our duty as a society to erase this ignorance by education of the genetically sexual 'deviant' ones.
One point that Corvino makes is that even if homosexuality is unnatural, it would not be correct to say homosexuality is immoral. Let’s assume that homosexuality is unnatural in all aspects. Corvino’s claim would still hold true, homosexual sex would be moral. As mentioned in the essay, “unnatural” holds various definitions. Deviating from the norm would still be morally insignificant, innate desires are still not a good judgment or morality, and sex organs continue to serve more of a purpose than just procreation. Have you ever had a conversation with someone who had completely different views and beliefs from your own? If you were open to hearing about their thoughts and ideas, did you find the conversation to be more engaging than most? In Chaim Potok’s The Chosen, he explores the relationship between two boys who found their differences to be quite intriguing. Reuven Malter, an Orthodox Jew living with his father, is a brilliant boy who excels in both mathematical and Talmud studies. Danny Saunders, a Hasidic Jew who is next in line to inherit his father’s dynasty, is also extremely gifted in Talmud studies. Danny struggles with math and logic, he prefers to read the ideas of others. The two boys grew quite close after establishing their differences. Their type of friendship, as described by Potok, requires them to both accept and understand each other’s dissimilarities in order to be successful. It is these types of relationships that we generally learn the most from, whether its about the other person’s ideas or our own.

Conversion therapy, or otherwise known as “reparative therapy,” is a homophobic process by which many therapists attempt to “cure” homosexuality. Conversion Therapy demonstrates the ignorance of this world by causing mental and physical harm to its participants in an attempt to “cure” something that is not a problem, and that is why the federal government needs to ban it once and for all. Homosexuality was once considered a mental illness, which led to attempts to “cure” it.
If homosexual behaviors were to be made a universal law, all the people should, therefore, engage in them, and if this happened, the human race would become extinct because there is no reproduction among homosexuals. Although Corvino is commonly persecuted by for his beliefs, he continues to justify his reasoning for gay sex by arguing against societies inconsistency in condemnation for sexual acts. By this he means that society condemns sexuality that does not aid in assisting what natural law theorists find most important, reproduction. My arguments will be ignoring a major element in factoring the morality of homosexuality, the law. Yes, many people know that stealing and murder are both wrong, but this is based on socialization and learning passed down from previous generations. The aim isn’t to ignore the rules, but examples from history relating to homosexuality will not aid in proving ground for its ethics. A rational, autonomous decision making process must be used in order to decipher right from wrong, which can lead to solid, concrete answers.

These cases are completely helpless and have nothing to do with being homosexuals; it is a natural stimulus that they were born with. I will begin first with the idea that sexual behavior should not be granted its own moral code. Sexual ethics only makes sense if sexuality plays a unique role in human life. If procreation has significance precisely because it is a contribution to God's ongoing work of creation, sexuality is supremely important and must be governed by restrictive rules, which would therefore prohibit sexual acts that are not for procreative purposes. This justification of sexuality as a unique aspect of human life, however, is dependent on a theological claim that there exists a God who micro manages the sexual lives of individuals. Without the presence of such a God, there can exist no separate restrictive rules on the nature of sexual acts. Even if we grant that there is a God, most people will agree that sex is more often used as a way to intensify the bond between two people and therefor sex is the ultimate trust and intimacy that you can share with a person.
Religion is a major aspect on why society believes that homosexuality is wrong and should not be accepted. Individuals who are against the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community because of their religion believe that “homosexuality is a horrid transgression of God’s plan” (Bawer 74). They consider them sinners because they are going against God’s original intention; relationships should be between a man and a woman. Nia Augustin is a member of the Christian community and believes that supporting or being homosexual goes against her religion beliefs. In her interview, Augustin stated, “I have been told that the purpose of a man and woman being together is to reproduce, but a homosexual couple cannot do that, so that's not of God.” Homosexuality is sinful and wrong in the eyes of religious individuals because it involves sex that does not produce life. However, it is ironic that individuals that use contraceptives to prevent them from creating another life are not judged as cruelly by society. Even though homosexuals are not able to have children, they are still people and they deserve to be treated likewise.
