Gay Marriage Legalization
Gay marriage has been illegal in the majority of the United States. Although gay marriage is considered illegal there are many reasons why it should be legalized. Marriage is a human right reserved under the 14th amendment whether the human be homo or heterosexual. As of right now the United States have 17 states with legalized gay marriage (“Gay..”). Marriage is considered an act between two people who love each other to vow that they will always love each other. The Catholic Church is against gay marriage as they view the matter as a man and woman should be the only relationship capable of marriage. Gay marriage should be allowed in the United States because it’s a violation of the 14th amendment, denying the right to same sex marriage also allows the right to discriminate and because it is not an attack on same sex marriage.
The dictionary defines discrimination as “the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people”(“Discrimination”). This type of behavior is seen everyday to all different types of people. Not only just towards homosexual people discrimination is also used towards gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or transgender. Denying same-sex couples the right to marry shows gay and lesbian families as inferior and sends the message that its completely okay to discriminate against them (“Gay..”). In the academy there had been discussions of refusing to serve same sex married couples by calling the refusals “conscientious objection”. They are using the objection as well as “marriage conscience protection” as a way to be allowed to reject gay marriage (Sepper).

When talked about marriage is considered one of life’s greater accomplishments that also improve mental health (Dinno). A married same sex couple should be able to enjoy the benefits that a married couple has as well, such as inheritance, taxation, the same health coverage, and protection just in case the relationship ends (“Gay..”).
People use the argument that marriage was meant for reproduction, which cannot be done by same sex couples, although if marriage were linked with reproduction, those that are infertile would not be allowed to marry. Not every couple that is opposite sex that gets married has children. The “Father of Our Country” also known as George Washington had zero children with his wife and the same goes for four other presidents of our country.
