Education needs to be affordable to all, but the notion that everyone should go to college in order to get a good job ignores reality. Education is an important pillar that facilitates economic well being of a person and improves the human resources in a country across various industries. However, there is an increasing number of Americans enrolling for college degree programs, but there is a mismatch of market requirements and what most people attain. Attaining a college degree is seen as the main avenue through which to attain Middle Class status in America, and this view ignores the fact that degrees do not have similar job prospects as well as the potential of oversupply in college degrees. This paper focuses on reasons as to why not all students should get the four years bachelor’s degree and offers alternatives to these programs.
A free college education would attract more people to become students so they can learn, get their degree, and use it to earn more money in the real world. A liberal arts education within college should also be definitely free or less pricey because it can be “enormously practical because they became resources on which to draw for continual learning, for making decisions in one’s life, and for making a difference in the world” said Michael S. Roth. If a college education really did become low-priced or free within the next few of years, that would help me and others so much financially. It would be really great to see the day where college is much more affordable come in the near
Many believe that a college education will ultimately lead to a higher income, but according to Bird, “there is no real evidence that the higher income of college students is due to college” (376). Since there is no clear correlation between the two, students should not attend college if the only reason they are attending is to earn a higher income. They should not risk taking out a lot of loans, and graduating with a large amount of debt. Overall, I think that college is not a good investment because not everyone needs a college degree for the career they intend to pursue, and investing in college is not worth risking being in debt after taking out large amounts of
But this is not a valid reason. They have the scholarship option to pay for tuition fees. Amount of money that college students will make after graduation is much higher than the amount of money those who do not attend will make, so if someone can make sacrifices in order to pay for college then when they have a career someday they will make it all back plus more. I believe that students should carry out the higher education because they have an opportunity to accomplish their dreams, leading a happier and fun filled life. The benefits of college education is endless.
First, free college can encourage students to go to college to get a degree which leads to a high paying career. It can fulfill those students that are having a hard time financially, and fewer students will be in debt. Second, with free college, colleges will be more likely to help students that need the guidance to stay on track and get a diploma. Clayton and Bailey mention, "If we want to significantly improve educational outcomes, we need to make college more affordable so more students can enroll, and make the reforms needed to en-sure community college students can succeed in their courses, complete their program, and grad-uate within reasonable amount of time" (Clayton and Bailey). Finally, free college can help the U.S. catch up to the rest of the countries with higher education.
19.9 million students were enrolled in college in 2013(procon.org). More and more people are going to college every year. It may be expensive to go to college, but it all pays off. The reason why more people keep enrolling in college is because it really is worth it. It is worth spending the time and money on a college education because people who have a college education can have more Job opportunities, more benefits, and bigger salaries.
If everyone went to college the society could save so much more money. College is a very important thing. If you go to college you will most likely get better pay in your career. Also, with a college degree, you have more opportunities. Everything that I have stated is true and is why I believe that everyone should go to college.
As for state funding, the community colleges can look for other grants or government help to improve their institutions because the students themselves already get enough aid without the program trying to be implemented by Obama. The lower and middle class students will also be completing vigorously for spots in the community college campuses and that will only create a more hostile system to run. Michele Siqueiros said “ affordability doesn’t help if a student can’t get into the right class or find help figuring out what classes to take,” which supports that fact that there isn’t even enough room for all these students to go to community college; they don’t have the sufficient amount of space. Those “60 billion over 10 years” would be better spent on lowering and aiding students who want to pursue a higher education in public universities, that way it’s ensured these students will have the resources needed to help them get those bachelor degrees the Obama plan hopes for many
So in my opinion more educated nation would help remove all those flaws which are keeping country’s economy from growing rapidly. If the education is free in college then it can help a lot of those students who got good grades in their high schools but could not get into the college because of their financial situation. This way these kind of needy students who deserves to get a good degree and basically these students are future of America but they could not get it through
Nowadays, many people seek higher education for a better advantage in finding a job and getting a better life. Even though many people think going to a four year university directly from high school is a good idea; they are wrong. Starting out at a two year college is more affordable. Also, it helps people explore careers and prepare people to do better in four years universities later down the road. Going to four a year college directly after high school would cost a fortune amount of money.
