Our society today have many collections of beliefs that many individual can make as their religion. My parents both grew up in Christian homes as children and have influenced my sister, brother and I to do the same. We believe that God sent his only son Jesus to die for our sins, was buried, was resurrected, and therefore offer salvation to all who will receive Him in faith. The Holy Bible is the only source of his teachings and word of God. The only way for an individual to grantee entrance to heaven with God is to surrender their entire life to Him.
As I’m sitting at Daybreak church looking around seeing if any of my friends showed up, when only the sudden the preacher made an announcement over his microphone that went around his ear that

The thought of death has popped into my mind because I know that I won’t live forever on earth and that I have to make every moment worthwhile. Why do people fear to talk about death? At some point in everyone’s life they have experienced death of a pet, loved one, or a close friend and don’t like to picture themselves not being on earth. Death is most likely the least talked about topic and probably the most common fear in the world today. In my belief the number one reason people are scared to die is because they haven’t yet lived a meaningful and purposeful life on earth. A reason people don’t live a purposeful life is due to the fact many people want to experience different situations that they’ll never get a chance to do since they only have one life to live. These decisions people make whether it’s positive or negative basically determines if there time on earth was meaningful or if it was to have fun and please people around them. The fear of death is powerful because it can cause many people to not speak openly about it to others. Death could be waiting at anyone’s door steps at any time, which as individual we’ll have to be …show more content…
As we traveled on the airplane back to America I was the happiest kid on the planet with the biggest smile like when someone gives a little kid a piece of candy. I was starting a brand new life and being part of a family like everyone else in the world, but I felt bad for the other children back at the orphanage because they were still waiting to be a winning lottery ticket.
My family lives in the town of Mechanicsburg where there are many restaurants and shops owned by mom and pop. Many visitors come to shop and look at the art galleries on Market and Main Street. The town has historic buildings like th Union church on East Main Street, markets, and stands where people can buy fresh products. Mechanicsburg is well-known for its largest event that happening during the month on june called Jubilee Day. Our town's motto is "A Good Place To Live," which in my opinion is
Fear of the unknown, and fear of what is to come in our lives, has generations of people wondering what will our lives be like tomorrow or the next day. Death is always there and we cannot escape it. Death is a scary thing. Our own mortality or the mortality of our loved ones scares us to the point that we sometimes cannot control how we are dealing with such a thing as the thought of death. Why do we fear such a thing as death? We don’t know what happens after we don’t how it feels. The fear of death is different for most but it is most certain to come and we cannot hide from it. For death is just around the corner and maybe it’s will come tomorrow or the next day! We fear not death, but the unknown that comes from death, that is the
A lot of people are scared by the fact that their life now is all they'll ever get, and dying isn't viewed by most as a pleasant experience, therefore people don't want to die. People are not aware of life after life. They are afraid of the unknown.
Socrate explains the fear of death to be irrational, as it would be ignorant to think that death was the greatest of evils and not consider it to possibly be the greatest blessing to mankind. He believes that death is either lead to and process much like sleep in which the sleeper doesn 't dream, or another in which it is like a trip where all dead souls are traveling from one place to another in which they all meet. Ultimately Socrate believes the truth to be that a good man would have no fear of what is after death as nothing can or will hurt a good man. Socrate 's view that fear of death being irrational is fair, despite arguments can be made on whether their is a heaven or hell, or an afterlife. The true argument doesn 't revolve around
Death is part of the circle of life and it's the end of your time on earth; the end of your time with your family and loved ones. Nobody wants to die, leaving their family and missing the good times your loved ones will have once you pass on. In the Mercury Reader, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross “On the Fear of Death” and Joan Didion “Afterlife” from The Year of Magical Thinking” both share common theses on death and grieving. Didion and Kübler-Ross both explain grieving and dealing with death. Steve Jobs commencement speech for Stanford’s graduation ceremony and through personal experience jumps further into death and how I feel about it. Your time is on earth is limited one day you will die and there are many ways of grieving at the death of a loved one. I believe that the fear of death and the death of a loved one will hold you back from living your own life and the fear of your own death is selfish.
Living in fear of dying isn’t living, its waiting. At any moment, someone can accuse you for being a witch and doing the devils work and there’s nothing you can say or do about it besides accept it and live unhappily or deny it and die. Fear was everywhere. People feared the devil, they feared each other, they feared the courts, and the lifestyle that they had always lived. Death was always nearby, and people lost their faith. People dared not challenge the courts and risk facing the wrath of an angry judge. Nothing has changed in the 300 years that have past. Today, whether we admit it or not, we all fear something. Of course there are tangible fears such as spiders or heights, but we all share the fear of the unknown. We fear death because we do not know what comes of our consciousness. We fear wars because they cause death. We fear communism because we know capitalism, and change is feared. We fear others regardless of the amount of trust we place in them because we can never truly see into their minds and be certain that they will never turn on us for whatever fiendish
Many people seem to fear death, but philosophers such as Socrates and Epicurus would argue that one has no reason to fear it. Socrates sees death as a blessing to be wished for if death is either nothingness or a relocation of the soul, whereas Epicurus argues that one shouldn't worry themselves about death since, once we are gone, death is annihilation which is neither good nor bad. Epicurus believes that death itself is a total lack of perception, wherein there is no pleasure or pain. I agree with Epicurus because Socrates doesn't give a sound argument for death as a blessing, whereas Epicurus' argument is cogent. I would also argue personally that death is not something to be feared because, like Epicurus, I see no sufficient evidence showing we even exist after death.
When people ponder death they wonder about the unknown with trepidation. As a young man, William Cullen Bryant wrote the "Thanatopsis." His thoughts progress from the fear of death to the acceptance of the event. People should not fear death because everyone dies and becomes a part of nature.
... Everyone will eventually face death in their life, but some do not want to accept it. We should all live our lives with happiness, ignoring the thought of death because we should worry about the present and not what the future will bring us.
Socrates states, “death may not in fact prove the greatest of all blessings for mankind; but people fear it as if they knew it for certain to be the greatest of evil”. I agree with Socrates that we don’t know what death is, and it is possible for death to be a good thing. There is not a definite answer to what death feels like or what happens after you die. Even when we ask people about death, we are going to get infinite ideas about death. If we do not know about death then why fear something we do not know. We also cannot decide whether death is actually considered “evil”. There are many circumstances that people may think that it is better for a person to die than to live. In medical practices there is term known as euthanasia, which is intentionally ending a life in order to relive pain or medical assisted suicide. We cannot determine whether it is a bad for a person to die because this may actually end their
I remember having to go on the road to pick up some supplies. I was with my dad and one of the workers at the orphanage. The actual supply run was not what made the event memorable, it was actually when we stopped for coffee. We were able to sit down and ask him questions. I remember asking why he did what he did, like I just didn’t understand why, he did not make much money and it was not easy what he did.
Death it is something we all must face at one point in our lives or another. It is either a death of a loved one, friend or co-worker. Sometimes it’s the devastation from a natural disaster. No matter what makes us face the idea of death it is how we handle this realization that truly matters. When Gilgamesh is faced with the horrendous loss of his dear friend and comrade Enkidu he begins to fear death. In Gilgamesh’s youth he is proud without fear of death, it is not until he watches his friend die that his own mortality becomes a fear.
According to Ernest Becker, “The main thesis of this book is that it explains: the idea of death, the fear of death that haunts humans like nothing else; the mainspring of human activity designed to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny for man” (“Becker” ix). The author of this book describes and quotes many other psychological thinkers views on the different kinds of fear and what contributes to the fear of death in man. The author explores several topics like self-worth, heroism, fear, anxiety, depression and many other issues throughout this book.
Death will always be universal and is continuously seen or heard of everyday. The fear and death its self affects everyone, but it’s important to feel accustomed and comfortable about it. Sure it will be sorrow or and painful when the day comes for you or a loved one, but that’s the world. We must feel comfortable and learn to accept this topic. Finding motivation or something to distract you from this is a good way to motivate your life and build up a positive lifestyle. Death will always induce fear, but it’s just another chapter in life. Even though death has been studied for many years, it will forever be one of the most debated topics, including the fear of
Death is something that causes fear in many peoples lives. People will typically try to avoid the conversation of death at all cost. The word itself tends to freak people out. The thought of death is far beyond any living person’s grasp. When people that are living think about the concept of death, their minds go to many different places. Death is a thing that causes pain in peoples lives, but can also be a blessing.
My most memorable trip was the day I went to the Children 's Memorial Hospital to meet my baby brother. Meeting my brother was an indelible moment because I had never felt such happiness and love for someone. On our way there, I also got to create a bond with both my parents and learn how to be a better happier person. At the time I was sixteen years old and was going through a stage where I felt depressed and that’s why the day I arrived at the hospital to meet my brother I felt this warmth in my heart that made me feel happy again.
