Nowadays, protein bars seem to be widespread in all places. They can be observed in the supermarket, the gym, and other stores. According to the Euromonitor international (2013), which is an online data and analysis for several countries and the United States, the protein bar market generated about 500 million dollars (as cited in Cespedes, 2014). This study reflects the huge number of people that eat protein bars. Why protein bars have become popular and widely common? Why do people consume them? People consume protein bars because they think they are highly beneficial. As the name suggests these protein bars, contain proteins that are required by the human body. People think that these bars can help them lose weight, build muscles, and they …show more content…
First, protein bars contain cheap proteins such as soybean derivatives and soy protein isolate that can harm and hurt the body. These proteins are in majority genetically modified organisms (GMO). Soybeans contain protease inhibitors that can cause perturbations in the digestive system. Daniel (2013) stated in her article that researchers have found that these protease inhibitors exist in big quantities and they are found in bigger quantities in GMO soybeans. She also indicated that studies have shown that these inhibitors are bad to the point that they can resist to high temperatures of cooking. The protein bars can cause by that problems in the digestive system since they contain in majority GMO soybeans that contain protease inhibitors. In addition, these soybeans can also harm the pancreas. In fact, the protease inhibitors distress the digestive system by inhibiting the secretion of protease enzyme and so the pancreas has to double its work to secret bigger quantities of this enzyme. This work will exhaust the pancreas. The exhaustion of the pancreas can cause both an increase in the number of pancreatic cells and the size of the cells, which can cause the pancreas to blow, as Daniel found. This disturb in the pancreas can cause disproportional growth for young and digestive perturbations. Therefore, protein bars can cause a distress for the pancreas that causes digestive perturbations. In her article, Daniel also …show more content…
First, these bars are convenient; they can be easily packaged, you can put them in your purse, your pocket, or your briefcase. They also can travel distances without being damaged, so the person will not have to worry about what food to take with him/her. Second, protein bars enhance building muscles. This is good news for all who wants to build their six packs. However, these bars contain proteins needed by the person after a rigorous exercise in order to meet his needs and build his muscles. Even if these bars are convenient, the majority of them are expensive. If the person often buys these bars (more than once a day or everyday), he/she will have more expenses and will not be able to save money. Johnson (2012) revealed that each bar cost at least $ 1.00 to $ 2.00; and some other bars cost $ 4. In addition, these bars are not effective for building muscles. Moss revealed a study that showed that the group that took added proteins did not have an enhancement in their muscles and did not lose weight showing by that protein bars are not that efficient in helping the person to build muscles. Additionally, Zaltas announced that other foods contain proteins that are appropriate after an intensive exercise, so the person can get real food instead of these bars. She said that these bars are “a convenient source of that protein, but there are excellent food sources protein, and
Carly Schuna, writer for HealthyEating.com, says “Protein-rich whole foods are more nutritionally complex than shakes, so they offer a greater variety of vitamins and minerals.” Since you go through the process of chewing them and they take a longer period of time to consume, they also satisfy your hunger more effectively and keep you fuller longer. Protein can be found in all meats, nuts, and even some plants. Voropay states “Dairy and eggs are some of the best sources of protein. Eggs have the highest digestibility score and are ranked as the ‘gold standard’ of all proteins. Beef happens to have the lowest digestibility score”. Aside from these foods, nuts are also high in protein and in healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, which promote higher neurological functions, incr...
Today many people are substituting normal meals with energy bars in hopes of losing weight. These energy bars seem to be an easy way to diet without having to hunt down the proper nutritional meals; the meal is already prepared for you in the bar. There are a few questions being raised about this method of dieting however. The issue addressed in this paper is the use of energy bars that either have low carbohydrate levels or that use lower glycemic index carbohydrates. The idea behind using an energy bar of this type for dieting is to lower the levels of insulin in the blood, reduce cholesterol levels, and prevent the drop in blood glucose that is thought to be associated with feeling hungry.
Destructive proteins that contain an abundance of proline and glutamine and the amino acid sequences Pro-Ser-Gln-Gln and Gln-Gln-Gln-Pro) are involved. The 33-MER, peptides cannot be broken down any further. When gluten is taken into the body, 33-MER stimulates T-cells to produce antibodies, and it triggers an autoimmune response, which slowly (IgA mediated) damages and destroys the surface villi. Furthermore, it reduces the amount of activity and decreases the amount of enzymes in the surface epithelium. Nutrients are not absorbed, so patients become malnourished regardless of the amount of food consumed.

According to diet.lovetoknow.com, animal sources of protein are eggs, fish, poultry, and meat. This is because they contain all the amino acids that are essential to the body. They are essential because the body cannot produce them on its own. This means that the eggs, salmon, tuna, ham, pork bacon in Mr. Smith's diet is complete. Almonds are a plant source and are considered incomplete because they contain only part of the amino acids the human body needs.(Eating, 2006) There is not another incomplete source of protein in Joe's diet to complement the almonds. However, the necessity does not exist to include a complimentary protein food because Joe ingests two sources of complete protein.
Experts recommend taking whey protein and amino acids within 15 to 30 minutes before workouts. Although people usually think of carbohydrates as fuel source, bodybuilders usually consider whey protein as the best source of energy for intense workouts. You need to take this just before training as a quick source of amino acids, or else your body will extract them from your own muscles. Whey will also aid growth and muscle recovery during workouts. You'll also need branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) in your pre workout to trick your brain into dampening fatigue so you can maintain strength for longer periods. Creatine is another important source of energy for working muscles. Finally, add beta-alanine to your mix to further boost your energy, muscle growth, endurance, strength, and fat loss.
Present study has both positive and negative impacts of genetically modified food on human
Initially, the product was marketed and distributed at bike shops and events where running and biking were the competition medium. As this new category began to expand, new entrants began to enter the market. These new entrants began to segment the food bar market into several categories. The primary consumers of the food bar market can be separated into three major segments: energy bars, sports bars, and weight loss bars. In the US, the food bar market is dominated by several companies: PowerBar, Balance Bar, Luna, MetRx, and Clif Bar.
Candelaria states in her article, “Eating a Western diet with lots of processed or fried foods that can raise blood levels of “oxidized” cholesterol and could increase heart attack risk”. Since fast food contains a surprisingly high amount of sugars it can aid in causing type two diabetes, especially if eaten over long period of time. Diabetes may contribute to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease and blindness (Candelaria). Frequent consumption of processed, fatty foods may lead to high cholesterol, high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, which may result in a stroke. Also, an obese person is associated with a higher prevalence of acquiring asthma as well ...
According to the book “Understanding normal and clinical nutrition”, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein intake is, 0.8g/kg of body weight for non-athletes; according to nutrition professionals this amount can be achieved through a healthy diet (Rolfes, Pinna, & Whitney, 2012). It is well known that athletes, due to their high energy expenditure, need to ingest a greater quantity of nutrients with the purpose of repairing and building muscle cells, besides reestablishing energy storage; The International Society of Sports Nutrition (2007) states that athletes and exercising individuals amount of protein to be consumed depends on the intensity of the exercise training sessions, the quality of the protein ingested in their whole foods diet, besides their carbohydrate intake. Meanwhile, athletes’ protein needs should be about 1.4 to 2.0 g/kg of body weight, and even though dietary supplements are a safe way to meet protein requirement, it would be healthier to obtain the necessary nutrients ingesting high quality foods as part of a daily diet (Campbell et al, 2007).
Moderation is vital in all aspects of life and is necessary for overall health, including with one’s food intake. Protein is one of the many important nutrient building blocks that is necessary for proper growth and good health. However, eating excessive amounts of any nutrient or inadequate amounts, can cause various health concerns. Scientists have been able to estimate the amount of nutrients that the body requires. However, the amount of any particular nutrient varies from person to person, depending on your “age, sex, general health status, physical activity level, and use of medications and drugs” (Schiff 2013). It is also important to remember that consuming the required amount of nutrients that meets your dietary guidelines does not
The last thing you want is undigested food passing through your small intestines. Undigested protein is linked to a variety of health problems such as bloating, gas, diverticulitis, IBS and even colon cancer.
In order to perform at peak potential an athlete must fuel their body with nutritious foods. Proteins, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables; these three-core food groups fuel a winning athlete. Proteins help build, teeth, bones and muscles, and create enzymes, red blood cells, long-term energy, as well, boost the immune system. Its functions are the most diverse of any food group. Protein consists of combinations of structures called amino acids that combine in various ways to make muscles, bone and tissues. They serve other functions as well including nutrient transportation and enzyme production for overall health beneficence. Adequate, regular protein intake is essential because the body does not easily store it. Various foods supply protein in different amounts with the highest quantaty coming mostly from animal products such as meat, fish, and eggs.
The exocrine function of the pancreas is that it produces enzymes that aids in the digestion of food. There are three important enzymes that are crucial in helping with digestion. The first digestive enzyme is amylase. Amylase function is to break down carbohydrates. The amylase enzyme is made in two places: the cells in the digestive tract that produces saliva and the main one specifically found in the pancreas that are called the pancreatic amylase (Marie, Joanne; Media Demand, “What Are the Functions of Amylase, Protease and Lipase Digestive Enzymes”). The amylase in the pancreas passes through the pancreatic duct to the small intestines. This amylase in the pancreas completes the process of digestion of carbohydrates. Consequently, this leads to the production of glucose that gets absorbed into the bloodstream and gets carried throughout the body. The next enzyme that aids in digestion of food is protease. While amylase breaks down carbohydrates, protease breaks down protein. Protease breaks down protein into the building block form of amino acids. The three main proteases that it produces are: pepsin, trypsin and chymotrypsin (Marie, Joanne; Media Demand, “What Are the Functions of Amylase, Protease and Lipase Digestive Enzymes”). Pepsin does not occur in the pancreas but it is the catalysis in starting the digestion of proteins. Trypsin and chymotrypsin are the two proteases that occur in
Certain foods can make a difference in sports competition. Conditioning, strength, and speed have been the focal points of athletic training for years; however, the research on nutritional elements indicates their importance to an athlete's optimal performance. Knowing the proper food to eat before, during, and after a physical activity can help an athlete in achieving their desired performance.
