Q. The main reason knowledge is produced is to solve problems. To what extent do you agree? ____________________________________________ I agree, to a greater extent, that knowledge is more or less produced to solve problems in this wide-complex world. But before I proceed, I’d like to lay some questions. What are the reasons for which knowledge is produced? What do you identify as a problem? Can you totally solve a problem? In my perspective, there are two reasons why knowledge is produced – Communication & Understanding. And to solve a problem, we need to communicate our ideas and understandings too. Everything comes under these two words. Knowledge is created by observation and deduction of what works and doesn't work in life. We try to understand the world around us and why it works the way it does, and create theories to explain our observations. When we think our theories have been sufficiently tried and tested against observed reality, we take that as knowledge. Sometimes it turns out that our knowledge, or what we think we know, is …show more content…

Knowledge is required to identify the cause and effect of the problem. Knowledge also helps us to predict what the general effect could be. For example, an Emirates aircraft gets stranded at the terminal due to an engine failure, minutes before take-off. It is only when the engine alert pops up that the pilots get to know the problem. Consequently, a group of highly trained engineers are employed to repair the engines as fast as they can. It is knowledge that helped us devise mechanisms to identify a problem. “Highly-trained” refers to being extremely knowledgeable in order to solve real life problems in certain fields. Everything was working smoothly and the plane was ready to take-off when the alert popped up. The engine became the source of the problem. A problem may lead to more problems as
