In August, 1945, President Harry S. Truman made the order to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. After the initial bombing there were no objections, but now people are unsure of if there was another way that would have had less civilian casualties. I personally think that the atomic bombs were inevitable. While the bomb did cause many civilian deaths, it was necessary because they wouldn’t back down, they were committing countless atrocities, we would have lost millions of troops otherwise, and the bombs brought a quick and decisive end to WWII. When deciding whether or not to drop the bombs, several issues were taken into account, but ultimately the Japanese left us no choice. It was estimated, by United States army strategists, that if we tried to invade Japan we would have lost millions of our troops along the way to Tokyo. Because …show more content…

One of the many horrible things the Japanese did over the course of the war, was that they performed experiments on their prisoners. There is one story of how one Japanese official took three captured American soldiers, and cut them open, without any anesthetic to see how long it took them to die. They also raped, murdered and enslaved countless chinese Korean, and other asians during the war. Also, another atrocity they committed was that they ate the flesh of other men. On a semi-regular basis, the Japanese soldiers would go into Chinese towns and slaughter them all, then if there was no food, they would take the dead people, and eat them. They cut off the fattiest parts of the humans, and cut them up so that they couldn’t tell what kind of meat they were eating, but it was still human. These truly horrifying crimes, made the Japanese very deserving of the atom
