Bottled water verses tap water. 9/21/2016 Why is bottled water so popular? The United States is the second largest bottled water producer in the world right after China. Bottled water is expected to overtake soda as the number one packaged beverage by next year. Companies like Nestle and Coke are betting big on the future of bottled water. they spend fortunes on advertising to convince Americans that bottled water is the drink of choice for the sophisticated and the health conscious. Bottled water costs more to. Americans are paying an average of $1.22 per gallon. That is about 300 times the cost of tap water. Oil cost 1.39 per gallon as of May 2015.That makes bottled water on average more expensive then oil. Here are a few reasons the cost of bottled water is so high. The price of water by its self, the bottle it comes in, the cost of transporting, and the costs of advertising. We can avoid these unnecessary costs by using tap water. Let us not forget the effects on the environment. Less than one third of these bottles will be Recycled in the United States. Most bottles end up in landfills or floating in our oceans. All of that Water has to come from somewhere. Our ground water is being over used so that this water can Be bottled and sold. The oil used to produce and transport bottled water means large amounts of Co2 being pumped into the atmosphere. If we want to secure a pollutant free environment for children, we have to make big changes starting with making use of tap water. Bottled water has its advantages.
